Hi,

My brother in law was just given a 69 Malibu by his dad. He was going to try and make it a daily driver, but after seeing the condition it was in, he has decided to look for another car to start with. This one doesn't have a single non-rusted body part, and there is no motor or tranny, the front bumper is bent, the interior is mostly gone or rotted, etc. ect. It does, however, have an original 12-bolt rear end under it. My question is, what is this rear end worth? For that matter, what is whole car worth in its decrepit condition? He is planning on selling oit to a local Chevy salvage yard, but I think he may get more by selling it to someone who wants a 69 chassis with a 12-bolt in in. ANy ideas will be appreciated.

Is this car a Super Sport? If it is then it will have the SS code on the VIN tags. The value of the 12 bolt depends on the condition, gear ratio and if it has a posi. It could be worth anywhere between $150 to $900. Other parts of the car may be worth something if it is a SS.

No, it's not an SS. I will crawl under it this weekend and look for codes. Maybe I'll pull the cover and check for posi as well. Thanks for the info.

One other question. I have a 67 that has an 8.2 inch 10 bolt with posi. Will the 12 bolt out of the 69 fit my car? If it will is the swap worth doing if the 12 bolt is not posi? My 10 bolt is almost new.

it will fit but theres like a 1 1/2 difference. 67 rear is shorter. and as far as changing it if your ever going to go with a big block a 12 bolt would be the way to go. but I wouldnt let a salvage yard get it, I would try to sell seperate or just hold on to it.
