Just guessing, is it strength? I just want a good clean street launch, so would my 10 bolt 3.56 with a posi carrier give me that? TH350 tranny and a strong 355 to deliver the RPM's back to the rear.

Generally speaking, yes you should be just fine with your setup. But, keep this in mind, if you hit ANYTHING enough times, or use a big enough hammer, it will eventually break. A healthy BB is equal to a bigger hammer.

Not an expert, but the usual reason for going to the larger rear-end (or a Ford 9") is twofold. A diff with a larger diameter ring gear by default is going to have a larger diameter pinion gear regardless of ratio. When you get into the lower ratios (4's, 5's) the pinion gets smaller - less strength. You usually can't get gears in the high 4's or even 5's in the 10 bolt because of this. Second, the rest of the assembly is physically larger - stronger. Bigger bearings, axle shafts, etc.

A properly set up 8.2 will do everything most "normal" folks can throw at it. 250 shot NOS, turbo/blower need not apply...
