Were all the GM corporate 8.5 10 bolt differentials the same during the 1970's? I have a 1972 olds with a open rear, where is the ID# stamped? Were the carriers the same for the c-clip and bolt on axles. Will this one fit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33731&item=2434870926

Thanks Mike

That one will fit, but why do you want it? It is a standard differential, like the one you already have. The differentials were the same, except I think that the ones without c clips didn't have the recess in the axle gears for the c clips.

The spider gears were welded and the spider teeth are broke from the previous owner racing it. So, i figure this is an inexpensive way to get it back to stock.

On the right axle tube, usually on the front side close to the center casting.

Just found out my gears are 2.73 instead of 3.08. Are the 2.73 gears only 3 series in the 8.5 corporate 10 bolt.

Yes, the 8.5 uses a 3 series differential for the 2.73 gears.
