Just wondering what people are running in their radiators for coolant. I have a 67 Malibu that only gets out of the garage in No. California about 10-15 times between April and October. I don't have to worry about freezing temperatures, more about cooling in hot weather, especially at Hot August Nights at Reno in August. I try to start it once a month in the winter, but it rarely gets out of the garage.

Distilled water & two bottles of Water Wetter helped my overheating problem. Not a total cure, but it definitely helped vs. antifreeze & water.

GENERAL
50/50 MIX IS GOOD IN MOST WEATHER .. THE THINNER MIX OF ANTI FREEZE can help keep things cooler then a thicker mix .. dont go too thick with glycal as it will deture cooling ..too thick is not good

I use about 10% Prestone to 90% distilled water, but have a heated garage.

I heard that the distilled water sucks atoms off of aluminum components much quicker than plain spring water or softened water. Might want to think that one over, I've always used distilled before also.

I was looking up sacrificial anodes of zinc to use so the aluminum does not deteriorate on my water pump and soon-to-be radiator, but could only find water heater/industrial uses. The link in one of the searches here was no longer valid at JCWhitney - anyone have any ideas?

Try these.

For the summer, 25% prestone, 75% distilled water, rest of the year 50/50 prestone/water.

Need some freeze protection, and plenty of corrosion protection. I use Walmart house brand in 50% solution with distilled water. I object to paying a couple of bucks extra for a container that says Prestone on it just for the name. The contents inside are identical.
