: 69 Chevelle SS police car?
lance-w Jan 17th, 05, 10:28 AM Could it be the infamous 69 Chevelle police pursuit vehicle? I think this one was from Texas! You can actually see where they took the Texas state decal off the door!! Actually we just had a beautiful weekend in SoCal and Jill actually got to work on her car. She stripped the whole right 1/4 panel yesterday. For those of you who have done this you know how much fun that was

ssal396 Jan 17th, 05, 10:31 AM Looks good, any idea what color your going to paint it??
lance-w Jan 17th, 05, 10:42 AM This color with white pearl stripes:
Magnetic Red Mettallic II
It's a three stage paint (should cost a small fortune for the paint materials!)

ssal396 Jan 17th, 05, 10:49 AM NICE ! graemlins/thumbsup.gif
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 10:54 AM who you tryin to fool dude? i took a looksy at your vin, and it's clearly a retired "mary kay" car, that was then used for an oscar mayer weiner mobile, only to be later used for a fossilized rodent museum, before it was abondanoned in the same river bottom my old 71 gmc sprint was found.
that paint is definately going to make that ride look wicked, and will probably be done, before my 64 leaves the garage.
John_Muha Jan 17th, 05, 11:30 AM Think Meyer is spelt with an "E". Like this:
My bologna has a first name it's O-s-c-a-r. My bologna has a second name it's M-e-y-e-r.

John_Muha Jan 17th, 05, 11:52 AM Dang, been singing the wrong words all these years. No wonder people look at me strange when I'm singing it.
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 12:14 PM don't worry john, it was just a reaction from too many head cheese sandwiches. that stuff is so nasty looking in the package, i don't know how anybody can buy that stuff..
i tell ya, i can't wait to see lance and blondie finish that ride, that paint is going to look insane.....
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 12:15 PM Well since BLACK HARLEY is the original weiner, he should know huh smile.gif Don't be dissin' my car dude!
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 12:23 PM OK Bill you redeemed yourself, you aren't such a weiner after all. I can't wait to see it either. I can't wait to just get it all one color! If the weather holds, I'm hoping for this weekend graemlins/hurray.gif
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 12:32 PM this weekend? are you serious? wow, i didn't think you were that far along.. tell me if you need help, and i'll be over. wait, wait, wait, your teasing as usual, your going to have it all in primer this weekend, right?
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 12:42 PM one color as in primer, no the real deal costs like $1500 just for materials. I have to save that first :( I am not a good saver either. I am considering a cheaper paint. I don't know though I don't want to regret it not painting it what I really want. I looked for a long time before I decided on that color. Can't imagine anything else.
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 12:46 PM hang in there, tax returns are on the horizon, and think of all the $ you save on saturday dinners.....
SS_Sean Jan 17th, 05, 1:09 PM Cortez Silver Metallic!! graemlins/hurray.gif j/k. That color you picked would look awesome, but man would it be expensive!
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 1:32 PM yep, that is true Bill, we would starve without your famous Saturday night dinners yummmmm
GRN69CHV Jan 17th, 05, 1:32 PM Just curious, what did you use to strip it down. I have to do mine. I started on mine [driver's 1/4 panel actually]. Started on it with a DA and 80 grit [my car is painted with a bc/cc, maybe even a urethane], but the paint is way too hard. That will be much too slow. Thinking about giving the 6" angle grinder with 60 grit a try.
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 1:38 PM SS_Sean, beautiful car smile.gif My car was originally black, but we already have a black one. Lance does all the painting so it is just for material I have to buy. He painted his own car and it turned out great. Do you know of any other deep red metalic paint that is cheaper? Seems like all of the Corvette colors are very expensive.

Thinking about giving the 6" angle grinder with 60 grit a try. Jasco paint stripper (the non-safe and sane kind) and after that hit the residue that didn't wipe off with paint thinner or the little spots that we're left with a DA with 80 grit. It took Jill about 5 hours to do that one panel. It's not fun!
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 1:46 PM you know blondie? i've seen a few toyota's running around with a very similair shade. maybe we can check ito that, and see if it's any less expensive...
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 1:49 PM GRN69CHV, I used Jasco premium paint and expoxy remover. This seems to me to be the best methed. I have used a grinder and a sander both, but the best way I think is to use the paint remover first and scrape as much of the paint off as you can. I did several coats and just kept going until I got as close to metal as I could. That quarter panel had alot of bondo on it. So it took a long time. After that Lance sanded off the remaining paint and bondo, it only took like 10 minutes. I don't know what kind of paint was on there. The original paint was still there though. I went though like 5 different levels of stuff just to get to the metal. Hopefully it would work for yours.

Seriously...I think I know the color you're talking about and I think it's too much of a garnet color as opposed to the ruby color that the Vette is in the picture.
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 1:56 PM i think you might be right (not about the ricer thing) but couldn't you put a splash of something to make it a little richer red? (i know nothing about paint) just trying to figure a way to do this without the economy of a small country....
Gazzer Jan 17th, 05, 4:40 PM That color you have picked, especially with white pearl stripes will be beautiful graemlins/thumbsup.gif
You talking the typical 69 stripe down each side or the hood/trunk style ? I personally think that the hood/trunk stripes in the pearl paint would be stunning! I look forward to more pics.
Oh, and BTW, did I say I love 69's :D
Gaz graemlins/beers.gif
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 4:58 PM Gazzer, I totally agree with you hood/trunk stipes will loook awesome. I know they didn't come originally on the 69's but i have always loved that look. It's my car so what the heck! I am also going with the parchment white interior. It will be a beautiful car when done. Heck, it already is beautiful to me smile.gif The more I think about it, $1500 isn't all that much for a paint job. I hear about people spending $5000 to $10,000 for a really good paint job. I just need to stop whining and save the money, it will take longer for it to be done, but I have a feeling I will always regret it if I don't paint it the color I really want. I am with you, 69's are my absolute favorite. You have a SWEET ride!
1BLACKHARLEY Jan 17th, 05, 5:52 PM AHHH, AHHHH, AHHHH (MORMOM CHICK) CHEW!!!!SORRY, SINUSES ARE BOTHERING ME....
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 6:27 PM Hey Bill if you are at work you need to go home because you are not making any sense. You are going to get yourself fired. graemlins/clonk.gif
Bill Pritchard Jan 17th, 05, 6:50 PM I think it's disgusting that you strip your quarter panel and don't find tons of rust and bondo underneath graemlins/waving.gif
Seriously, save your $$$ and get the color you want. Otherwise it will haunt you for the rest of the time you own the car. Kudos to you, Jill, for having the courage and work ethic to work on the car yourself graemlins/thumbsup.gif
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 7:35 PM Thanks Bill! Actually there was quite a bit of bondo, not too much rust. There was a little by the bumper. There still is a lot of body work to do. That is the next thing I am going to learn. I hear body work is not fun. I loved putting the engine together, and when she started it was something I will never forget. graemlins/hurray.gif
BBblondie Jan 17th, 05, 7:37 PM PS Bill I definitely am sticking with that paint you are right I know I would regret it if I didn't get exactly what I want.
