Is there a Heater Control Flow Valve on a 1965 Chevelle without A/C or is this valve only used on A/C type cars?

I took the easy way on one of my cars and need to do it to another. Stant makes a manual valve. Installs in one of the heater hoses. Need to open the hood to open or close it but the weather here doesn't change too fast. Stant's part numbers are 20500 or 20501 for the heater valve. Should be able to find a picture at Parts America.

There wasn't a flow control valve on either A/c or non a/c cars in 65. The amount of heat was controlled by damper doors in the heater plenum.
