i am interested in getting an electric fan setup. i have a 383 sbc. it stays around 190 most of the time but if i get stcuk in traffic which is a common occurence since its my daily driver it will get as high as 215 or so. But as soon as i get moving it will go back down to 190-195. So basically i kinda want one i can turn on and off by the flick of a switch. or maybe temp sensored im not sure?? Any feedback or recommendations.
How much CFM should i look for when getting one?
Any good brands you guys would reccomend?
How hard is the set up and are there any pitfalls?

Check my website for the Mark VIII fan. I got mine from Houston Performance (a 5.0 Mustang supplier).
My engine will run 175-180 on the highway without the fan running, but will run 165-170 with it.

There are several options available through Summit Racing. I'd suggest you follow the same criteria that I'm going to use when I go this route.
Find the biggest fan with the highest CFM that will fit in the car and your budget.
Some come with thermal switches and others are without. Prices are within quite a wide range, so there must be a quality issue reflected in the cheaper units. I'd guess the bearings are cheaper, more current draw, flimsy blades and framework, etc.

I went with the dual Winstar fan setup.

I just took delivery of my 16" Zirgo 3300cfm - that's right 3300cfm out of a 16" unit. Even withut a full shroud and using the mini shroud that comes with the fan, it cools like a monster. It's thin, too - 3.25". These guys have done their research. I'm going to find a local metal bender to build me an aluminum shroud, but until then the Zirgo works fine. Buy em quick or theres' a 4-week wait.
www.zirgo.com. (http://www.zirgo.com.) I think this baby with my aux coolant lines to get collant to the back of the heads quicker (Jeg's has 'em), this baby is gonna run cool, cool, cool. The VA monster fan I was running was 3700cfm and it was bone cold - 180.
