I recently bought a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 that came from the factory with a/c but every thing in the engine compartment other than the box and 3 prong relay on firewall have been removed and there is no wiring to the 3 prong relay. The fan switch will not turn on and I can't find a hot wire on the wiring going to the switch,6 wires I think, or at the 2 seperate plug ins on the box under the hood. I have not taken the inner fender out to access the blower motor yet. Where am I going wrong and what is the solution? JDJ

This (http://imagehost.auctionwatch.com/bin/imageserver.x/00000000/azss/ach.JPG) is a 70 A/C harness, binding tape removed, 69 is the same 71 & 72 are similar.You need this harness.
The connections are as follows.
UNDER DASH
A- Main power feed. Will connect to a same color (brown) wire in the dash harness.
B,C,D - connect to the control head switches.
E- Fan switch connector.
UNDER HOOD
1- Compressor clutch.
2- Low temp cut out switch.
3- Fan speed resistors.
4- A-Blower motor ground. (black) B-Blower power connection. (purple)
5- A-High speed relay ground (black) B-High speed relay.
6- Harness master ground Grounds to firewall. (black)
7- High speed power fuse, power from horn relay.(orange)

Elree: Thanks for the info. As you can probably tell the is my first old car with a/c. Heater setups are pretty straight forward, looks like I have some fun ahead of me.Looks like I should buy a wiring diagram. Since most of the components are gone I'm going to have a lot of loose wires going no where, is that a problem, are the fan speed resistors one of the plugins in the box? Maybe I will run a hot wire thru a toggle switch to the blower motor and see if I can get it to work,I don't need the heater often but the defrost comes in handy at times. Thanks for the help.
