My 1990 3/4 ton truck is getting hot when I have to sit for a while in trafic. It stayes cool running down the highway pulling my car with the a/c on but heats up fast when I stop. The radiator looks good and the water pump is not leaking. The problem started last summer. Could the clutch be bad? I can not move the clutch front to back or side to side on the shaft like some worn clutches and I can't see or feel any vibration.

The fan clutch is supposed to get harder to turn when the underhood temperature gets hotter. You might want to change the thermostat as well as change the fan clutch. The clutches are not too expensive, and if you get one with a life-time warranty, the instructions say to change them out every 5 years or so. Best of luck to you. Dennymac
