: Hole in AC box

My elky was originally a SB car with factory air.

Now it's a BB with headers.

Last time I went to change plugs, my hand brushed up against the portion of the AC box that is closest to the headers, and I was amazed to feel the fins of the condensor-thing. Turns out, I've got about a 2x3" hole in the box, which can't be good for efficiency or for keeping engine smells out of the cabin.

Can this be fixed with fiberglass matting or something like that, or do I need to go find a new box? (would a box from a BB car give a little more room?)

derekf,

Did the headers melt the hole in the box? If so, I would try to find some patch material that will withstand the heat, and then just make sure it's sealed up. It should be okay after that, but I've never had to patch anything like that before.

You might be able to patch it, and then get one of the heat shields like they use between the cataletyc(sp?) converter and the body on newer cars, and then glue the heat shield in place. It might work...?

Good Luck,
Jim
