i have seen that there where two different designs fo A/C pumps,A6 NON-SUPERHEAT and A6 SUPERHEAT.. they list the SUPERHEAT as a 72 and up style..i understand that much.. now how do i tell the difference between the two? and is the rest of the system the same? ie: A/C box, in dash box and controls? i kinda mixed and matched my car when i put back together. i had a real nice A/C box from i think a 72 along with a dash unit..is there a way to tell from looking at the system if its one or the other? or are they the same other than the pump? let me know what you all think..send pics if posible..thanks everyone! you have helped me alot so far with other Qs...

The difference is in the wiring to the compressor. A superheat comp will have a "pin" connector at the rear, just under the outlet hoses. It is wired into the control wiring for the clutch.
My 72 factory service manual doesn't say much about it. except "the electrical contact welded to the diaphragm (inside the superheat switch) will only contact the terminal pin during a low pressure-hiigh temperature condition. High pressure-high temperature or low pressure-low temperature conditions will not cause the contacts to close. I'd GUESS that its a protective circuit.
I'd send you a scan except my scanner bit the dust recently.
