I am trying to keep original parts on my 71 SS 454. Can any one tell me how to rebuild the water pump. I have a press but I don't know which end of the shaft to press, do you press off the front flange or the empellor? Also what are the part numbers for seal and bearings? Does anyone sell a rebuild kit? Thanks, Bob

I just rebuilt mine today it is easy the proceedure is in the 1970 chassis overhaul manual you can pick one up for about $25.00 I found the rebuild kit from a place called the water pump factory in Lubbock,TX PH.800-933-9415 it was $63.00 it a little pricy but I could not find it anywhere else. the front hub is pressed on measure the hub face to the end of the shaft BEFORE you press it off so you can put it back in the same place on the new shaft then remove the back cover, face the pump front up, support the center of the pump bottom, a 4" pipe coupling works perfect press the bearing out using a 7/8" deep socket, then press the impeller off the shaft.
