: Heater Core Line & Block Heater

On my heater core, the bottom line (one with the bend) is square at the end instead of round, so it leaks. It isn't supposed to be square right? I recently bypassed the heater core. Now I want to hook everything back up. Can anyone tell me how to hook up the heater hoses so I can use the block heater? Also, am I going to have to buy a new heater core?
Thanks

I took some pictures. The fitting and line is round but the very end is square.

You shouldn't have to buy a new core. You do want to run water through it to flush it out before you hook it back up - could be all kinds of things living in there. Check for leaks inside too.
I can't tell you why, but the heater core's supposed to have a square tube. Here's one on ebay with a picture http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1874814814
As you can see, it's got a square hose too. If it was leaking at the hose, you may have the wrong size hose.

Yeah, I bet I was using 3/4" for both lines. Do you know by chance how to test a block heater? Should it make a noise when powered?

I bought a new core for my '69. It has 2 round tubes, one is 3/4" one is 5/8".

I've never heard a block heater make any noise, but you should be able to plug it in and feel the outside of the heater to see if it's getting hot.

How long should it take for the heater to warm up? Also, should it spark a lot when you put the plug in and take it out of the outlet?

It's something like 400 watts. That's a big draw, so yes, it may spark when you plug it in. I can't tell you how long to heat up though...I've never used one in any of my cars.

It works. I installed it in the car, but haven't tried it in the car yet. Hopefully I have it hooked up right.
