This is for a new 350 GM crate motor in a 68. I have the standard wide radiator. I'm not with my car right now, but I think it is 28". I will not be using a standard fan. I was told that I need to use two electric fans with the 28" radiator. Is that right?

Do you guys with one fan on that width radiator find that it cools properly?

I run the dual flex-a lite system with 500 plus hp with no cooling problems at all. Fans come on at 185 and take little time to bring it back down to 175-180. Hope this helps.

Hey MC71454-- Did you have any trouble at any time with that Flex-a-Lite dual setup where you had to beef up the alternator to run it at full speed? My fans (same setup) don't seem to be running full rpm. What amp alternator do you have? Are the fans wired through a relay? Mine are wired through the adjustable thermostat. I plan to change some things this winter to help my situation. Thanks in advance for your help/comments.

I have a 100 amp Powermaster Alternator, tested to 104 amps at 3000 RPM and 65 at idle. no problems at all with keeping them at full speed. This system works so good.

They are wired through a relay, but I use Chrysler starter relays as my relays, much more HD than those little black boxes. I have the relay wired to a switch in my dash to turn them on or off, no thermostat, but have been thinking about adding one.

The fans draw 19 amps.

Any other questions, please ask.

Tom

I went with the Windstar dual fan setup. Easy to install, about $100 used. I installed a thermal sensor in the block which kicks on at 205 and off at 185. Its also wired into the aircondition switch so they come on when the air is on. I have the large radiator (33")
I also did the CS-130 alt mod which was very simple. Works for me.

Chev-Hell has lots of info on his webpage about the conversions and wiring diagrams

Here is another option. Dual chrome shroud Spal fans from BeCool.

Works very well.
