: Installing new dash vent deflectors

Just bought 3 new deflectors (chrome and black center and side dash vents) for my 70 el camino from NPD (page 85, 9262). All you get is the deflector which must be installed into the original deflector housing. Anybody have any idea how to do this? I have some complete housings with deflectors from my last project (70 Camaro) I scavenged from the junkyard, but the housings are plastic welded or glued together and I couldn't get them apart w/o destroying them. I don't want to break the housings on the el camino while removing the old and installing the deflectors. Any help would be appreciated. The guy at NPD wasn't all that knowledgable about this. Thanks.

On my 70SS, I used a flat screw driver and gently pulled the top of the housing away from the vent and then pulled the vent out. The new one went back the same way.

It's tricky and you feel as you are very close to breaking it, but it worked out.

Try RALPH70SS way first. If that doesn't work you may have to use a soldering iron to open it up along the seams.

I just bought the Chevelle special edition that is put out by Super Chevy (It's mainly a collection for articles previously published). It has a dash redo article on a dash from a '70 Monte (which is essentially the same except for the overlay). He did it the same way Ralph suggested.
