I've seen about a dozen posts concerning the new L31 Vortec heads in the past month, so I know people are going to be interested in this. I just got the February 2000 issue of Super Chevy and they tested the Vortec heads and matched Edelbrock RPM intake with a Comp Cams Xtreme Energy 268 cam kit on a 350 and, lets just say, they don't have anything bad to say about it. All the specs (torque and hp) and a list of items that were used is included in the article. Doesn't seem like a bad deal for those who are looking for a relatively low-budget build-up (like me http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif). BTW, the article is on page 65.

Similar write up in the Chevy High Performance mag. Probably both Peterson rags. Pretty darn interesting I think. The Vortec heads were worth about 50 HP over the alum. Vette heads which are no slotch anyway. One thing I do like about these articles is that the dyno tests tell it like it is. Finally got over 400 real HP out of the lowly crate engine. My magazine stack is getting out of hand. Hate to throw these away. tom
