I have a 502 crate motor in a 70 Chevelle. The only thing I have so far is the vintage air bracket for the compressor. I ordered it for the short pump, because the engine came with the short pump. I have found that Allen Grove components made the bracket for Vintage Air, and that I can buy the brackets for the power steering pump and alt, for the driver side, which is what I want, because the compuessor bracket is for the passenger side. What I want to know is this short water pump going to be a pain in the a@# or not. Most posts I see guys are going to the long pump, I just want to paint my brackets black, or have them powder coated. Any one stayed with the short pump? what am I in for if I dont change? any experiances appreaciated, thanks....

There are no performance differences with short vs long vs corvette short pumps.
What is your concern? You may have to space the fan/clutch assembly out further if used that's all.
Personally I would be more concerned with the OEM water pump. Remember, this is a marine application engine that is designed for primary or secondary cooling systems and will NOT flow the same amount of water as the 454 due to siam cylinder design and smaller cooling passages. My experience with the 502s is that they like high performance water pumps better. Go with Tuffstuff or Edelbrock.

Well, just ordered my brackets from Allangrove components, seems that a big block with Air, has to have a long water pump so you can run an Alternator and power steering pump. So the Eddlebrock long pump is on the way,,
