Provided you have adequate room to use a puller to get the drive pulley off, you will not have to evacuate the system.

As long as you are on the topic of pulling the compressor clutch, what is the procedure.
I've never seen anyone do it firsthand. A6 is the type used on 70 Chvelle, right? (long cylindrical type) I see a center nut and 3 small screws around the front.
