My car is a 69 SS396 four speed that I use as my daily driver. I’ve been running at 205 deg in all types of driving conditions. I’ve been running a 50/50 mix of water and anti-freeze. This morning I drained my system and then flushed it with a cooling system flush and back flushed the system. Then I filled the system with 20% anti-freeze and Water Wetter. I probably put 70 to 80 miles on the car today in 90 deg weather and the temperature gauge stayed at 200 deg. I’m not sure if the 30% reduction of anti-freeze or the Water Wetter dropped the temperature 5 deg. It is probably a combination of both. I don’t believe flushing the cooling system helped because no debris was flushed out.

Probably a little of both, but I don't think there's any need for any antifreeze during the summer, just use the lubricant, water and some water wetter, you'll probably run cooler yet...

Just make sure that you have an anticorrosive agent added.

Distilled water????
I used water from my hose. Because I'm out in the stick I'm on well water. How is well water different from distilled water?

Hey Bubba-Dayton isn't the sticks http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
Well and town water may have impurities, minerals, particulate matter in it, whereas distilled water is just pure H2O, no nothing added or included.

Hope you don't have any problems down the road after using the "cooling system flush" probably Prestone, these snake oils have a tendency to eat stuff that has helped seal the system over time. A better solution is to flush the whole thing at least every two years minimum with straight water, and don't forget to get the heater core also. If you see a whiteish/greenish "beard" on your radiator the flush chemicals will probably induce a leak. New Modines are not that expensive as long as you buy them from someone else other than Advance, Pep Bro's et al. Check with a radiator shop in your neighborhood. My thoughs on the subject.

My .02 worth... Everytime I've used a "flush" product, the stuff chewed through (a possibly already weak area)somewhere and caused a $$ problem. I was having a high temp prob on my daily driver ('92 Roadmaster)and spent 1/2 hour with the hose spray nozzle and cleared about 3 lbs. of road crud from the radiator fins. No more overheating. The radiator was not VISIBLY clogged up, just dusty looking, but the water coming off of it was brown muck. I'm in MN, and we go from -20 to 105+ in a year, and cooling and heating is a real test up here. Personally, I'd go with a 50/50 mix, and do the pot of water on the stove with the thermometer test to verify your T-stat as well. Also, for $6, replace your pressure cap.
