Ok, first off this is not on my chevelle, the a/c is on pop's miata. I get alot of info off of this site, so please help if you can, slam if you must.
i have retrofitted his 91 with 134a, I have 12v to one side of a thermoswitch which is bolted into the top of the compressor. No voltage out other side. When i jump the magnetic clutch, the compressor spins and makes nice cold air. BTW system was empty for a while, considering a dryer change??

My question is, since they won't sell me a switch and want $500 for a compressor, can I just bypass the thermoswitch or do i risk serious damage???

thanks

It doesn't surprise me that Mazda won't sell you just the switch. Most dealership parts departments aren't set up for people who work on their own cars. They don't make much money selling you just a switch.
Find a rebuilder on the net who rebuilds compressors, one of them will have the switch. There's a lot of them. In the mean time, bypass the old switch 'til you get the new one.

Good luck,
