: Stock Radiator at 190-200 degrees
Rock68SS Jul 9th, 02, 10:40 PM I have the stock radiator, Wiend aluminum water pump with aftermarket fan. It runs 190-200 but it rises in stop an go to 220. Thinking of going aluminum. Has any one tried the universal 19X31 radiator? I have 18.5"X33.5" now. Mounting problems? Any good sources for exact fit? Thanks 68 SS396 4 Speed
HOTRODSRJ Jul 9th, 02, 11:18 PM You can get a custom fitted/designed radiator from PRC at www.streetrodstuff.com/Products/157 (http://www.streetrodstuff.com/Products/157) for under $300 to your front door.
Try a two row 1" all aluminum crossflow.

Schurkey Jul 10th, 02, 2:24 PM What do you have for an "aftermarket fan". I'm curious if you have decent airflow during stop & go traffic. In short, I think this may be a fan problem, NOT a radiator problem.
Rock68SS Jul 10th, 02, 8:55 PM I took my radiator to a shop today. It is a 2 row in good shape. They recommended a 3 or 4 row brass or a 2 row aluminum. They said the 19X31 on ebay would take some creative mounting to use the original shroud. I found a 4 row brass reconditioned for $75. I also seen the one site that had the custom aluminum for $281. I purchased a clutch today but the original fan did not have a clutch so it will not work. The fan that is on it is an Imperial 18" large aluminum blade.
chev-hell Jul 10th, 02, 10:13 PM how bout a windstar dual electric fan... check my site..

mc71454 Jul 11th, 02, 10:43 AM 3 weeks ago I bought a GM ALL Pro radistor withtrans cooler from a guy on E-bay..Brand new Near custom fit with 2 1" rows. It works awesome..lower temps by 20 to 30*. Now I can stage my car at the track at 160 instead of 180 and it doesn't go over 180 even after a 1/4 mile blast. The radiator was $299 delivered....way better install than those Universal fit ones when you have
Now this past weekend I plumbed the trans lines into the radiator first and then to my external cooler. Trans now runs 20* cooler on the street and 30* cooler at the track..
The only mod I had to do was drill a hole in the bottom of the radiator support to make room for a drain plug for the trans part of the cooler....I also used 2 3-row rubbers and 1 4-row rubber on the top of the radiator under the radiator support cover.
I took out a Modine 4-row unit that was 3 years old...anybody interested?
If you are interested in the link to the guy I will post it.

Rock68SS Jul 11th, 02, 11:30 PM Thanks for the feedback. The Modine is good brand but I'm sure your not in the $75 dollar price range. I intend to try the reconditioned 4 row. I would also like the link for the GM ALL Pro radiator if the copper one doesn't work out. The easy fit is encouraging. Later
HOTRODSRJ Jul 12th, 02, 9:02 AM I know it's a matter of $$, but I highly suggest that you reconsider an aluminum one. You WILL be happy with the best!
Save those pennies and dimes. Scrounge up some parts to sell on EBAY. Get a part time job for a few weeks...anything to go to aluminum. You won't be sorry.
Don't mean to hassle you tho....I understand when budgets get tight. Good luck with your project.
