I am looking for a correct radiator for a 70 LS6 4 speed. Will a 396 4 speed radiator be the same? I don't want to pay an extravagant price for an worn beyond repair LS6 radiator. What part number should I be looking for and how do you identify it? What is a realistic price?
Should I just purchase a correct replacement?

A Modine 348 should work, its a 4 row. But if you originally had a 3 row a Modine 302 will drop right in. The difference is the width of the tanks which fit in the rubber saddle mounts. Four and three rows are not interchangeable without changing the saddle mount rubber and holders.

Ed, sorry forgot to include the price: Should be less than a buck eighty at a radiator shop. Don't go to a chain store or they will stick it to ya. Let me know, maybe I can help. Greg

Greg,
Thanks for the information. The car doesn't have a radiator currently. Can I just measure the lower radiator support area and use this to determine size? Year one and NPD only list one cushion for a big block radiator and they show it fitting a 4 row.
Do you have access to a discount radiator supplier?

Ed, The tank width on the 4 row is 2 5/8" for a 3 row it is 2". The rubber itself is only maybe a 1/4" larger than the tank width, so you would have to measure the metal saddles to see what was originally in there, a 3 or 4 row. Yes I can get Modines at a decent price, but bear in mind shipping charges. I'll work with you. As for the rubbers, regardless of 3 or 4 row GM has them, just can't find my catalog right now to give you the part numbers. Wife must of hid it, so I wouldnt buy anymore stuff. Greg

I'll measure the metal saddles and get back to you.
Thanks for responding.
