I've noticed that the defroster duct is not phyiscally connected to the heater box on my 69 Malibu, there is about an inch of open space. It would seem like they should be connected (flex duct?) but I see no signs of anything ever there. Could someone look under their dash, see how their defrost duct is hooked up? Thanx.

Hi Jim, I don't think any of them were "directly" connected to the heater boxes. The duct up to the top of the dash acts to sort of direct the air that comes out of the heater box up to the dash.

tom wood is right, there is no direct connection of the two pieces. I got a little better flow by making a small aluminum duct and fastening it around the heater box and defroster duct. It seemed to help the defroster a little bit. When I changed over to vintage air, the new heater box has a weatherstripped fitting that fits over the defroster duct.
