When I bought my 72 convertible malibu, the engine heater hoses had been cut which I figured were due to a leaky heater core. The motor is out right now getting rebuilt. Is it alot easier to replace this with motor out or does it really matter?

Yes it should be easier with the motor out - I believe you could reach that pesky hard to reach screw on the heater box, waaay back by the fender if you get in the engine compartment and reach in there.

do it now or regret it later. fix and clean everything you can while the engine is out. it takes half the time. I speak from experience.
