View Full Version : Taking out the heater motor in a '65

Hi. Actually two questions here... Just a few weeks ago my heater was workin fine, but after about an hour of stopping working for short intervals, it stopped working at all. I've checked the fuses (though that wouldn't explain the on-off stage) and I wonder if there could be an easy solution to my problem? If not, I need to know how to get out the heater motor. Most screws in the enginecomparment are fairly easily accessed (I suppose all of them), but are there any screws on the inside of the car? and which way do I get the thing out? If it makes any difference, it's a 230 I-6 with a 3spd+overdrive.

ps. forgive my stupid q, I'm only a novice...

Yes, it's cold in Finland and yes, there are Chevelles here.

Hello Sam-da-man, Before you take out the heater motor, I would first make sure that the switch and all of the wiring going to the blower motor are OK first. It's best to check the easy things before diving into the more difficult stuff.

If you determine that your blower motor is bad, you will need to remove all of the nuts that hold the blower motor housing to the firewall There are also 2 or three bolts surrounding the motor itself under the fender. To get at these bolts usually requires that you remove the passenger side (right side) inner fender. All of the bolts and nuts you need to remove will be outside of the interior (on the firewall). If you need a picture from my assembly manual (1966, same as 1965) email me at tkmwood55@mediaone.net. I will look it up, scan you a copy and email it to you.

By the way, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Thanks, I don't see what could be wrong with the switch, but I'll check.

I'll try to get some time in on the car, (not too easy right now) and get back to you if I have problems...
