I seem to have picked up a virus. The only thing I have looked at were Chevelle tech posts & links to replys. Could I have picked it up from a link of a users car picture ?

what is the virus? That will help you figure out how you acquired it?

My virus scan here at the office picked up adw_stuff.a and hktl_prockill.a this morning, just a few days after a (supposedly) thorough virus cleanup. They were located on my hard drive, but I don't know if I picked them up or if they came from someone elses computer (I'm on a network). Thought it was odd, as I haven't done much more on the Internet than B.S.ing on TC.

looks like spyware. Download adware or update your current version. www.lavasoftusa.com. (http://www.lavasoftusa.com.) They can be damaging but in there base set they don't carry a payload per say.

The adw_stuff sounds like adware, but I haven't looked it up yet. I read the description of hktl_prockill briefly, supposedly it can shut down different processes in the PC. Seems like it can't do it by itself though, only in combination with and prompted by other viruses. Aw, heck, who cares. I'll let my boss handle the network, he knows everything anyway :D

Hopefully, any new viruses will be nipped in the bud. Got a new server, Adaware and a good virus program now, plus professional support. My boss really woke up after our virus incident. We were almost completely down for a day, day and a half. When I asked why we didn't have any protection, he got mad and said: "If you're so concerned, you could have downloaded a virus protection program for free from the Internet and installed it". To which I replied: "I think downloading free software from the Internet is actually the way most people get viruses..." He didn't talk any more to me that day smile.gif
