I've been trying to get on ebay, but it does not seem to work. I don't know if I'm having problems with my computer or not. It will start to open, but the it goes to a blank screen and in the upper left corner will say........About:blank. I'm not having problems getting on any other sites.

Nope, still won't let me in. All other sites work, this is weird

I have had that happen on occasion with other sites. Try deleting all of you temporary internet files and than try again.

I just tried doing that, and that is not working either. I had a problem yesterday with an adware thing, and I deleted something. I wonder if that is having something to do with this? It's just weird that it's the only site I can't get on.

kill all your temp files and make sure you check the box delete all offline. Kill your cookies that can cause the issue if the cookie is expired or has a date bearing config to it. You may have to chose settings view objects and delte one it there but I don't think ebay has a xml type plug in. You might try running cmd prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns. Maybe the cache has a bad address at the moment or something.(far fetched but you never know).

Are you at work? I had this same problem once..till I found that Corporate Security decided to block eBay out :(

No, I am not at work, this is something that is happening on my home computer. The two sites that seem to be affecting me are ebay, and yahoo. Now last night, I did manage to get onto ebay, and some items I clicked on let me view them, and when I clicked on some of the others I got that stupid about:blank page. This is driving me nuts, I will try deleting the temp files again, I know I did not click that box for the offline content, I will try it this time. Hopefully I can get this straightened out

I tried deleting the temp internet files again, even the offline ones. That did not seem to help any. I don't know what I did, but it's pissing me off. It's just weird that it's only a few sites. Could it be because it's a site that you can log into?

Search your computer for all tmp files by typing *.tmp in the search field then delete them all. Programs are supposed to delete them automatically when they close, but errors, freeze ups ect.. can leave many on your hard drive.

I don't know Undee, it's doing it again. I tried deleteing everything again, but it's not working. I wonder if my problem lies within AOL???

Did you delete all the .TMP files on your hard drive or just the one in the windows temp folder? AOL keeps its temp files in another folder. Im using Win98 and they are here
C:\WINDOWS\All Users\Application Data\AOL\C_America Online 9.0\spool
Delete them before opening AOL. Delete all of your cookies too in the C:\WINDOWS\cookies folder. If that doesn't work try going to ebay with IE. Just because you are using AOL doesn't mean you have to use their browser. Post back.

Undee, I tried going to where you said, but when I open the Windows folder, there is nothing in there that says ALL USERS, or cookies? I'm really at a loss about why this is doing this, and because it is only 3 sites. ebay, yahoo, and a portfolio site I have, where I check on stock prices.

What OS are you using? If not Win98 they might be in another folder. The way I find them is by searching the whole hard drive for them by typing *.tmp in the search field. After the search is completed delete all the one that are in any temp folder or a spool folder which is part of AOL. Also do you have a firewall? It can also be blocking the sites. Post back

Ok, I have windows xp, in my search, I have typed in *.tmp and the first time I did it I came up with over 1,000 files I deleted them all, and for about a day or two everything was working fine. Since then, it's done the same thing. I've tried deleting the files again, no difference. I've gone into my AOL settings, and even deleted the temporary internet files there, still no difference. I even tried launching the IE by itself, and it does the same thing. I get a blank window that says about:blank in the upper left corner. I just tried shutting my firewall down, and going into ebay and it still will not go. The funny thing is, if someone posts a link to ebay from the chevelle site, I can click on that and get into ebay, but if I try to get on their home page it will not let me. So far it is just the three sites I have mentioned. ebay, yahoo, and the stock site. I'm really stumped, I thought it was all figured out the first time I deleted all the *.tmp files.

I had the same problem with mine. Found out it was the later versions of Zone Alarm doing it. If I removed it from the machine, things worked again. No idea why.

John, what is Zone Alarm? I don't think I have that on my machine. Weird, it just let me on ebay for a short bit, but then suddenly it sent me to that about:blank again. This is driving me nuts

Ok, one other thing I can think to add. I was having a problem with my Norton anti-virus always coming up saying I had an at risk file. I kept telling Norton to delete it, but it could not. I also installed the adaware program, but that did not seem to catch it. Anyway, I clicked on the name of the file and got the complete file name of it. It was

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\63C7R8D4\MediaTicketsInstaller [1].cab.

Anyways, I typed that in my search, it found the file and I clicked on it and deleted it. Now when I run my Norton AntiVirus, it does not find this anymore. But, if memory serves me correctly, I think it was right after I did this that I started having the problems with ebay. Is it possible I deleted something important? If so, can I get it back?

tireburner396, sounds like you have some spyware/adware/malware on your computer. I did a internet search on MediaTicketsInstaller. Below is part of a copy of someone else's Hijack This Log on a computer help forum....

ClickSpring Object Recognized!
Type : File
Data : MediaTicketsInstaller[1].cab
Category : Data Miner
Comment :
Object : C:\Documents and Settings\Antonio Hernandez\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\P9FAA76N\

tireburner396, do you use any software to remove spyware/adware/malware? If not I would for starters. Spybot-S&D (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) and Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) are two good programs. I use both. Download and run these to clean your computer then post back.

Undee, I did have that on my computer, but like I said I was having problems for a week or so with this on my computer. I then typed in that file or folder name that I got from my Norton Antivirus, my search found it, I deleted it. I do have the ad-aware, I have been running that. Adaware could not seem to find the mediatickets though. My Norton Antivirus is what was finding it. I run them both every other day.

Now weird, Since yesterday the only sites I have been to, are this one, pogo games, and I went on excite to do a search for carl yastremski. That's it. Today, when I went to go on, my Norton anti virus had a whole list of spyware/adware things it had found (since yesterday) I clicked to delete them, it deleted about half and failed on all the rest. I'm running adaware now as I write this to see if it will get the ones that Norton missed. My question is where do these things come from? If I'm not even really going on web sites, how are they getting on my computer?

But back to what I said, when I deleted that file/folder that had the Mediaticketsinstall in it, do you think that is causing all my problems with ebay? It was not doing it before I deleted that folder

Heres a few things you can try,

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=293402

Heres another,

Dealing with a corrupt Cache

In many cases when you have trouble accessing a site, pages don't load properly - such as when you click Refresh (F5) then the page loads, this indicates a corrupt cache. Either a corrupt folder or the hidden "index.dat" is damaged. The problem arises when you use the "Windows Method" (above) this does not in many cases repair a corrupt cache folder or does not resize the index.dat. It continues to grow and grow in size.

Completely Deleting the Temporary Internet Files and index.dat

[XP\2K] (WinME\98 users see below)

Log on as Administrator and delete the desired <username> folder(s) and reboot.
(or log on as another user that has Administrator privileges)
Hint: You can also press "Ctrl-Alt-Del" twice at the Welcome screen to bring up the Administrator account or download: "AddAdministrator.reg" to add the Administrator to the Welcome screen.
To use: right-click and select: "Save Target As", locate the reg file and right-click and select: Merge Ok the prompt and reboot. [more info]
Example
"C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files"

Note: where "username" is the account or profile that you suspect is corrupt. Remember to delete the folder, not just the contents. A new "Content.IE5" and a set of random named sub-folders (4) and index.dat will be created on restart. You can not delete these folders from your own account.
TIP: If you do not want to delete the cache manually, you can use CCleaner instead.

I don't know what is happening today, but for some reason the three sites are working. I have not done anything different. This is definetly weird!!! But, it has done this once before. Who knows how long it will last.
