Having a problem with my CD-R drive. When I try to burn a cd, computer says I need a CD-r drive, which I have and have used before. I installed a new drive, thinking this was the problem, but still the same. Computer is three years old, Gateway. Haven't tried them yet, would like to fix this myself. Any Ideas? Thanks.

what exactly do the disk say that your trying to burn to? Are they new? It could easily be the software.

Have you gone into control panel and looked at the hardware shown for your computer? Maybe Windows is not recognizing that drive properly.

I've had similar problems in the past, and it was related to the software I was using (Roxio), to where it had corrupted a driver. Removing and re-installing the software took care of the problem.
