Not enough info to go on. It's like asking Why is my 6-banger Nova faster than my 454 Chevelle. If the Chevelle is out of gas and you have to push it, then that's an answer. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

How much memory/disk space/what else does each system have? If you have bad memory on the "big" machine or your disk is all fragmented or no swap space or any of a hundred other reasons, performance suffers...

Since this forum is for internet users I will take a chance that you are referring to your web data transfer performance? My experience with a dial up connection and two computers with equally "fast" modems gave different results because the two modems differed in speed in the real world. Try going to several of the speed tests on the net and comparing the two machines. If one computer has "Winmodem" it may be slower because it has to fiddle around transferring data back and forth to the motherboard, while the stand alone modem does it all in the modem.

JWagner: Thanks for the reply. It seems that is the problem. The 866 had a PCI US Robotics 56K Performance Pro Modem.. Took it out and hooked up an old 56K Sportster external modem and problem has cleared up. Last night it hooked up at 45333bps and this am hooked up at 26400bps. Don't know what is behind the different hook-up speeds but they do not seem to have an effect on performance. Thanks again Jon
