I received the following E-mail from Bob Umlas this morning. He's still not a happy camper !!
Spent literally 3.5 hours on phone with MS (9PM-12:30AM!!). Luckily I had a
bootable floppy (for Win98) or my machine was history. With that, we tried
reinstalling XP from the CD via MS-DOS (!!). After finally getting a successful install, my machine still freezes frequently, and there are some VERY fluky things happening during a reboot (like weird messages, etc.).
We're speaking again tonight -- I still have no access to my printers or Zip
drive -- they require XP-compatible drivers and I've been unable to find
them on the net (excelpt for the Zip, but that didn't help!!)
I also don't know how to set up my Outlook -- don't know what special things to type
in for POP3 account, etc. so I have no email at home except my Yahoo account. My machine is about 70% functional. I had to reinstall
any software I wanted to use, and now I have 4 profiles & am not sure which
is the "right" one -- bob, bobu, all, all.windows. Seems some files are in
one place, others in others. Of course, reinstalling office XP required me
to enroll MS that I was reinstalling the stuff on the same machine, & on & on.
The story continues!
P.S. Know where I can get XP-compatible drivers for Epson Photo 870 and
Apple Laswerwriter Pro 630?? Hmmmmm? I expect to call these companies today!
