I'm assembling a '66 SS that has a '72 steering box. The stock steering wheel shaft doesen't match the rag joint on the steering box. The question is, do I need a separate flange on the steering wheel shaft or do I need to go with an older rag joint ordo I need both?

I used a Z-28 box on my '65 and simply bolted the '65 rag joint on to the later model box. Same splines, etc. -simple. Use care to align splines as they came apart and your steering wheel will still be in it's proper position. Bryan

Bryan-
What year Z did you take it from? Is it power steering or manual?
thanks, Steve

Steve- I THINK it came off a 76? It's been a few years, I used to pull stuff like that for use in my roundy rounder. It's been sitting around a while. Anyhow, it's PS with 3 turns lock to lock (actually a little less, 2-7/8?) and I've heard that any saginaw box of this style, manual or power, will work in an A-body. I've also heard to watch out for internal steering stop compatibility but have never run into problems. Bryan
