Wife is going to get a newer laptop. Currently looking at a Dell Celeron 800Mz. Not sure if she really needs something that fast for what she will end up using it for. Looking for some recomendations and/or on-line sources for laptops to check out. Think she can get by with last year's model and I can save a couple of bucks. She will mainly be using it running Excel in front of the TV.

I think Dell has an "auction" on their web site, or at least a place to get good deals on older equipment. Might check it out. Also, I saw IBM laptops for under $1,000, I think they were 700Mhz, 20GB drive, 13.1" display.

BTW, if she does Excel while watching TV, she's either gifted or watching the wrong channel! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

You might want to check the refurbished systems available from Dell. Sometimes there is a great deal waiting there for you. http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/default.htm
Excel doesn't really need a "super" machine to run properly. Only if you create and run massive VB programs in Excel will the speed of the computer matter. I've generated programs in the 25-30 MByte size that ran fine on 500MHz machines. Anyway, good luck finding the right machine, and obviously I also recommend Dell.

Thanks all.

Linda has looked there after some coaching. Hope all is well up north. My one younger sister will be a grandma in a couple of weeks. Too bad all are still not around to see it. Heck Bob, some of us are getting old.
