: Blue screen of imminent death!

Started getting an error message when I boot up (not all the time, just periodically). 2 questions below after the data:

"Terminating thread due to stack overflow problem. A VxD, possibly recently installed has consumed too much stack space. Increase the settings of MinSPs in System INI or remove recently installed VxD's. There are currently 6 allocated".

When I did a step by step startup, after it indicated it started windows, it listed the following files:

vnetsetup.vxd, ndis.vxd, ndis2wup.vxd, javasup.vxd, [shortened version here]c:winsysvrtwd.386, c:winsys vfixd.vxd, vnetbios.vxd, vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd, nwlink.vxd, aspienum.vxd, ndiswan.vxd, c http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gifroga~1symantecsymevnt.386, lmouse.vxd, c:winsysmrtrate.vxd, vgartd.vxd, c http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gifrogra~1norton~1navap.vxd, cshook.vxd, c:winsyscis1284.386

Question 1: I know how some of these files relate, such as the symantec/norton files, but not sure I need all of these. Do I?
Question 2: how/where DO i increase the MinSP s setting-did not see a reference in ANY ini files.

thanks guys!!!

Have you recently installed Norton Antivirus? Or tried uninstalling any networking clients. Have you installed or upgraded AOL recently.

I've had Norton Systemworks 2000, including antivirus, installed for quite a while. AOL updates itself-think I went to 6.0 about 5 months ago.
As for the networking clients-about 2 months ago I un-installed many clients and protocols. Was trying to get multiple PC access set up over my internet connection (PPPoe-Stinks!) but called it off and removed all but what's needed by Bell Atlantic.
Any suggestions?

I recognize some of those vxd's, and I know that alot are used by windows. I just don't have a good answer as to which ones or why.
sorry...
I would start backing up your stuff, sounds like a "dump" is in your future http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

Some of those vxd's are used by norton some by networking clients. Try reinstalling norton and your networking software.

Already did that one, thanks. I did find the instructions at the microsoft site on how to change the MinSP's setting. Haven't gotten the error message since I did that, but this machine doesn't reboot too often either.

Thanks guys!

Sid - can't help you with the vxd files, but I can suggest a solution to your network problem. You're right, PPPoe stinks, but Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing is even worse. I just bought a SMC broadband router and it works like a charm. It stays connected to Verizon (Bell Atlantic) and I have four computers plugged into it, all getting error free web access. They've been expensive, but I picked this one up at MicroCenter with an instant rebate and a $50 mail in rebate, so it only cost me $49. This was a month or so ago and I don't know if you can still get the rebate. Definitely worth looking into. Best $50 I've spent in awhile!
