Would someone explain "formatting" to me, and how it adds space to your hardrive?
I'm all for it! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

"Formatting" is the process of preparing a dive for first use. It dosen't add space, it erases the drive. Sometimes Winblows machines need a cleanoff.

Narti -
Is it possible that you're refering to "defragging", about which there are claims of adding space to the harddrive. Formatting, as Matt explained, is the process of preparing the harddrive for use. It doesn't add space, it merely readies for use whatever space is on the harddrive.

Do I see some "editorial license" being taken here? This probably belongs in another thread (how many Windows vs. MAC vs. linux vs. whatever [OS/2?] threads have you ever participated in?), but to talk "Winblows" to someone who doesn't know format seems like a waste of breath... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
