Any ideas Pete Cecil Aug 24th, 01, 4:20 PM Can you boot into SAFE mode? ------------------ Cecil Hawkins San Diego, CA 1971 GMC Sprint The Project (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/Cecils71Sprint1.jpg) All I need is time...and some $$$ (http://www.chevelles.com/showroom/Cecils71Sprint2.jpg) "Tourist, go home! By booting up in "safe" mode as Cecil is suggesting, and then shutting down and then booting back up normally, you can prolong the use of your computer BEFORE you eventually have to start over - meaning a reformat and Windows reload. Eventually, all the junk we put on our computers comes back to haunt us, and this is the result. Sorry I cannot be of any more help. ------------------ Bob McCormick 69 Malibu project Matt Smith Aug 24th, 01, 5:37 PM Bob's quite right, as things get older, they get slower till they crash...It's reformat time http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif RickS Aug 25th, 01, 10:10 AM If you've got data on the computer you need to salvage before the reformat, you might be able to get away with reinstalling Windows over the exisiting copy. That might fix the problem and let you get booted into Windows to get your files off. But if that does work, it's a temporary fix and you do need to wipe it down. Actually, Cecil's point about booting into safe mode is a good one as well. Sometimes just getting it to boot into safe mode will clean up whatever the problem is and let you get booted fully (of course if you get booted into safe mode, you could get your files off then). This is assuming you're not trying to overclock the processor which would easily cause the problem you're having. ------------------ Rick Sutter Member #383 '67 Chevelle Super Sport 67SS.com (http://67SS.com) Cecil Aug 25th, 01, 1:14 PM Woah, dudes! We don't have near enough information to be talking reformat and/or reinstalling Windows! Let's do some fact-finding first. Is this a brand new problem, or has it been developing for a while? Did you recently install something (hardware and/or software) or upgrade drivers? Caught any virus' lately? Anything that falls even close to the above tree is worth mentioning...
