: Transferring files from one computer to another?

Was just wondering if there was a way (besides burning cd-roms, using zip drives, email, upload/download, etc) to transfer large files from one computer to another?

Is there a way you could use a USB to USB cable to transfer them? I need to put all my car-related pics, website files, and things of the like onto my new computer. My old computer only has a 3.5 floppy and 2 hard drives.

Hope this isn't too far off the subject of the forum, didn't know where else to ask. Thanks everyone.

Use something like PC-Anywhere. If you're running Win-9x you can use parallel port connection, very fast. If you're using NT, only serial...

the Best Way is a Null Modem Cable. Attach this to the serial or parallel ports on the machines. Start up Direct Cable Connection, and transfer away! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

I think a program called FX works ok but you have to connect the two machines with a cable

Easy way is to take the hard drive out of one machine, put it in the other as a slave and copy from one hard drive to the other

I like Matt's idea but would like to offer up that I usually mount a removable drive bay in my personal PC for easy access to old drives as Dean suggests above.

Null modem cable with Direct Cable Connection is the way to go if you don't want to mess with opening the case but if you've got a lot of data, it's kinda slow. I'd go with Dean's suggestion if there's a lot of stuff to move.
