: Vanishing reply
1BadRat Aug 19th, 01, 3:59 PM I have a problem when I turn the computer on. Me. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
Anyway, this just happened and has happened several times before. I was typing a reply to a post, while typing I made a typo(the first one I've ever made, by the way), and when I hit the backspace key, the entire window/post was GONE! Disapeared. Just like you hit the X in the upper right corner. This is very aggravating, especially when I'm typing a long reply, as it is GONE! No where to be found! Could it be my computer, AOL, me? BTW, I've had it with AOL.
Thanks in advance. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

John_Muha Aug 19th, 01, 4:18 PM I'm just down here checking out worms. Dang things are full of protein.
I've not had that one act up on me. Taken to awhile back to copying the long ones before I even use a spellchecker or submit. With all the belching this machine does, don't want to retype it. Usually in the middle of doing something else anyway. Machine is just keeping warm.

Assuming you know for sure that your keyboard does not have a problem, do you recall if the message was actually sent, or was deleted/cancelled/disappeared ?? There are keyboard combinations that could accidentally send your post (e.g. CTRL+ENT) which, of course would make your post go away on your screen.
If this is some quirk with your hardware or software that cannot be troubleshot, then I would recommend that you compose all your posts in some text editor (any word processor would do) and when you're satisfied with it, do a "copy" and then "paste" it into the "reply" window for the post. Actually, that's not a bad idea to do that kind of thing with all your E-mails and site posts all the time.

RickS Aug 19th, 01, 8:27 PM Sounds like a Windows burp to me. I've seen similar things happen on Windows machines that hadn't been rebooted in a while. The keyboard acts like Caps Lock, Ctrl, or Alt are being held down when they're not or something else wierd like that. Usually it clears up with a reboot though.
Sorry, I don't have any ideas on fixing it (other than my favorite format and reinstall http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif).

1BadRat Aug 20th, 01, 7:52 AM Bob,
The message is never sent. Just disappears. I use the backspace all the time to correct while I'm typing. Every now and then when I hit it, boom, the post is gone and I have to start all over. I'm also on the Corvette site some and it has never happened there. The keyboard seems fine. Maybe I will try another one.
Rick, I reboot/shutdown all the time. I think you are right about the burp. Others call it a "system glitch".
Maybe it's time for a new computer. I have a 233 with a 28.8 modem, Windows 98 upgrade. It's been ole reliable. All my friends have these super-duper 1 billion/million watt computers and are always having to do something to them. I've had mine for what, 4-5 years now, and have done nothing to it. You know the saying, "If it ain't broke...." I'm either going to go to a 56K modem or buy a new computer. I can get a pretty good deal on a new one through where I work. Thanks for the help! -Mark
normie Aug 20th, 01, 8:33 AM If for some reason you hit backspace and you were NOT in the text field the backspace will bring you back to the previous window.. Thats the only thing I can think would happen.. It didn't close the window but went back to the message you were responding too.. either way the reply is GONE.. sorry http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif
undee70ss Aug 20th, 01, 6:42 PM I have Aol and it has happened to me to. When typing longer replies I type them in an email, then copy and paste them. Also the spell checker checks faster since you are checking it on your computer instead of over the net.
Dean Aug 21st, 01, 7:32 AM Funny but after I read this I was posting a new thread message in this forum and after typing half a page, it all dissappeared when I hit the space bar (I think)
That's the first time it has ever happened to me
