For anyone interested, this just ran in the latest issue of Chevelle World magazine. You DON'T have to be an ACES Member to take part, and this should be a really cool cruise!

AMERI-CRUZEN
When was the last time you took your Chevelle on a road trip? We ain’t talkin’ about a 50-mile round-tripper to a cruise in a neighboring town. Uh-uh. We’re talkin’ about a genuine, honest-to-goodness "get-it-out-on-the-road and drive it ‘til it breaks… or you get where you’re going" kinda trip!

Well, if you’ve been hankering for just such a journey, why not set aside a few days, a week, or even two to join an all-Chevelle cruise? The proposed starting location/date is Nashville on Friday, August 12, 2005, with an arrival date in the Seattle area of August 18th. Although the exact route hasn’t been finalized yet, it’ll originate in Nashville, then head through St Louis. From there, it’s on to Kansas City for the first overnight stop. The cruise will then head north to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where we’ll stop for the night. Heading west from there on I-90, we’ll traverse South Dakota before spending the next night in the Black Hills/Mt Rushmore area. After some sight-seeing, we’ll jump back on I-90 and head west again, with stops for Yellowstone National Park, Bozeman, Montana, and Spokane, Washington before arriving in Seattle on Thursday the 18th.

Certainly the schedule isn’t set in stone, although the route pretty much is. The plan is to spend the weekend at the ACES Northwest Regional, then return on a more southern route through Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Missouri. If you can join us for a day, two days, or for the entire trip, it’s your choice; we’ll be glad for the company. The estimated return date to Nashville is August 26th. Keep your eye here for more information as plans become finalized, or you can contact us on the ACES Hotline (615) 773-2237 if you want to participate or you’d like to provide some hospitality along the way.

Well I guess I have a new date to have my 69 done by, I was shooting for CB'05 but that is imposible thanks to my ex body man. hopefully I can find a new paint/body shop and I can join in on the fun. That sounds like it would be a great relaxing trip. That will go good towards the end of summer too. Thanks, Chuck for putting it together.

Hey Dave,
Gotta start somewhere... Depending on the folks traveling on the Cruze, we might be convinced to make the return swing a little further south. Like say to SoCal... It'd be a lot easier to convince people to do that if they knew they could pick soem of that fruit from the money tree in your back yard! Is that thing bearing hundred-dollar bills yet? Oh yeah, saw the post about the caravan to CB'05. It'll be great to see ya again, Dave. The '64-7 wagons are the Showcase Chevelles at CB this year. Maybe we can park our two "Memmel' cars together. 'Course, Ken probably wouldn't recognize the '66 after what I've done to it. Hope to have a really "hot" paint job on it by June!

Hey Nate, c'mon man! Get that '69 done! I know a shop here in middle TN that can get things handled for you. Great work at a reasonable price, too. They're doing a frame-off on my neighbor's '57 T-bird right now.

So far, I've got about five folks that have committed to making the entire trip to Seattle and back with me.... Gonna be a GOOD time!

Thanks Chuck,That sounds great. Email me there info if you get time and Ill call them If I can get someone to do the paint/body work and get it back to me in time to finish it I will defeintly go.There is not a dependable body shop here that I know of within 100 miles one of the local guys is real good and reasonable but he has been backed up for almost a year so he cant have it done either.

Any idea (guess) on the total miles round trip?
I'm in the process of freshening up the top end and installing a new TH350 (replacing the PG) in the old '67 Sedan.

Chuck,
You know my 70 (scuse me! The WIFE'S 70). It is NOT a show winner, just a VERY nice driver. I'm 100% convinced it'll go anywhere, anytime and keep on tickin'. We'll see if Zac and I can make it. Mom? NOT!
If so, we would drive straight north from OKC and intersect the caravan, go to Seattle, do the NW Regional, come back with the caravan, then drop off to OKC.
We'll start looking at it tonight.

Hey Chuck,Nothing on the money tree that thing drowned in the rain we've had this winter, you know us'ins from socal ain't used to so much water, ited be great to park next to Ken's other car,I'm workin on it now, putting in buckets and custom console maybe even vintage air, that power tour last year was a bit on the warm side.
We'll see you in June,so far three cars coming.
I'll work on that Seattle thing also,I'll bet I can get at least me to come,

Tom, love to have you and Zach join us! The north side of KC will be our first night's stop... maybe we could hook up then? I'll have more info on the hotels along the way as things get sorted out.

Sorry to hear about the demise of your money tree, Dave. Might be tough to convince 'em to make the detour now... Still, a SoCal sidetrip might not be a bad idea.

OK Chuck,
We just discussed the cruise at the supper table tonight. Mom WOULD LOVE to go to Seattle--------------------------ON AN AIRPLANE! But not on a 2wk cruise! NO WAY IN HECK (or something like that)! She put her stamp of approval on Zac and I going if we want to.
SO AS LONG AS THE CREEK DON'T RISE, ZAC AND I ARE IN!!!
Actually, I started looking at the tentative route last night after reading your post and thought hooking up in KC would be my choice for joining the cruise.
As we speak, I'm making out my request for time off/vacation for the rest of the year. CB05 is one, Aug 15-26 is another.

Sounds like a fun trip. I'd join up in the Black Hills ,SD. The Black Hills are a great place for "Cruzin". Yellowstone Park I don't recommend going to. It is beautiful but just "WAY" to many tourist in the summer. I live in WY. an won't go there in the summer. Moab,UT an Durango,CO. are fun areas for "Cruzin". Just a little "Local" infro of places I'll be going in May/June but fun enough to do again in August Keep the information comming I don't want to miss this one !

DZ if the cruise is going from KC to Sioux Falls the route will be up I-29 which is right over the river from Omaha. So I may catch the cruise on I-29 somewhere in Northern Missouri and tag along until we get to Omaha. Actually Council Bluffs Iowa might be a good lunch and fuel stop, especially considering that there are a bunch of TC and ACES members and many other Chevelle lovers very near the Omaha, Council BLuffs area.

ACES1
Feb 7th, 05, 7:39 PM
Mat, How many hours (avg) from north KC to the Omaha/Council Bluffs area? Lunch/gas there might work. Plans are for leaving KC about 7 in the morning.

Thomas, you and Sissy are sure gonna be a welcome addition on the trip! If you take a notion, you can always spend the "between" week at the house here in Mt Juliet; your room is still available... Maybe even be moved into the new house by then. Just think, you both can help us unpack stuff!

Nick, c'mon man! Fire up that '65 and come on along. You're workin' too hard. Time for some R&R!

'Preciate the input on what/where to stay away from, Larry. Like the article said, the route is not locked in yet. May have to take Thomas' advice on the "Going To the Sun" highway trip!

This is really turning out to be quite a deal already. I'm getting letters from ACES Members now, wanting to join in along the way. This should really be FUN!

Anyone here that can recommend hotels in north KC, Sioux falls, the Black Hills area, anywhere in Wyoming, and Spokane?

The Omaha Council Bluffs area is only about 2 1/2 hours drive time straight north of KC, but I doubt that most cars could make the whole distance on 1 fillup. It might be and early luch or you could leave a little later. If you are only going to Sioux Falls it will be a short day anyway.

Sheridan/Buffalo,WY on I-90 at the eastern edge of the Big Horn Mtns. are pretty towns to visit. Sheridan being larger with more camping/motels available for larger group Buffalo could handling any extras. The drive on I-90 from the Black Hills, SD to Buffalo,WY. would be relitively easy on "drivers" an "Cars". From Rapid City to the west coast nothing is "Flat" with elavations mostly 4 to 6 thousand feet. Again about Yellowstone National Park. Tour Buses rule the roads there. I'll go around an wait for you in Montana. I like the idea of Glacier Park. I've never been there but have heard that it's not that crowed.

Chuck,

Being from Montana, I also agree that Yellowstone would not be a wise choice. Very slow going and the roads are not in very good shape in parts of the park. Glacier Park is out of the way going to Spokane but the Going to the Sun highway would be worth the extra miles.

I hope to hook up with the cruise in Spokane as I'm now living in Central Oregon. Great idea for the cruise in this part of the country as most of the major cruises don't come close to the north west.

Thanks

Chuck, have you got the exit strategy figured out for after the show? We (the Oregon club) usually head back right after the show, and would be happy to have the long distance folks heading south with us, it would give you a head start out of Oregon the following day. We may be able to get a discount at our host hotel in Wilsonville for you folks. Wilsonville is minutes south of Portland. If we leave the Seattle area by 5pm I can usually get home around 8:30, which would put you in Wilsonville around 8:45. Let me know and I'll see what hotel rates we can get for you.

Steve, we'll be coming through STL on I-70 most likely. May change depending on construction. No matter what, we'll be coming out of STL and stopping for lunch at the Culvers off I-70 in St Peters. You can hookup with us there if you'd like... plenty of parking, great burgers and frozen custard!

Rob, Exit strategy? Uhhh, no. But we have a loose plan for getting out of town once the Regional is over. In fact, cruising south with the Oregon club sounds like a great idea!!!! I know we'll all enjoy the company! The timetable and direction sounds about right, too; we should be able to get everyone checked in and tucked in by about 10pm. If you get a discount on the rooms at the host hotel, let me know so I can post it once the itinerary is worked out. I'm still searching for hotels along the way, and will post them in Chevelle World. Each party will be responsible for securing their own reservations, however, since I can't reserve blocks of rooms without knowing how many we need.

Rocky, we're still waiting to hear from anybody in the area about a suitable hotel on the north/northeast side of KC, maybe something out by the airport? It'll be a one-night deal there. Keep an eye on CW for info once the details are worked out. Looking forward to seeing you there, Rocky! Maybe you can even take a jog north with us the next day?

Here's another cry for help... I still need some input on hotels in the Kansas City MO, Sioux Falls SD, Black Hills, and Billings, MT areas. It's looking more like the route will take us to Glacier Nat'l Park rather than Yellowstone. We've got Spokane handled, pretty much, and I don't think we'll have any difficulty getting rooms in the Seattle area. Plus, it looks like the return trip will get off to a great start thanks to Rob's offer.

I can help with the hotel in Sioux Falls. We make a yearly road trip up to SIoux Falls right around Christmas time and stay at a Ramada that is pretty decent. It's not to far off the interstate and is close to the I-29, I-90 interchange. The hotel has a bar, restraunt and an indoor water park that the kids (and adults) would love. Here is a mapquest link to the hotel including a phone number.

Chuck,
Suprised you haven't heard from anyone in Rapid City about the Black Hills. They've got a pretty active car club there. Rapid City is big enough to handle an over night stop with motels an camping. I don't know names of any motels there. Especially if reservaions were made in the next few months. Also Rapid City is centrally located on the edge of the Black Hills. Only about 15 miles from Mt Rushmore,Etc. I've camped there for years an always see groups of old car Cruzin around. I would recommend getting to Rapid City early to give people a good afternoon an evening of Cruzin. From Souix Falls to Rapid City pretty open country not much in between. I'm sure anyone that's been there will agree the Black Hills are a great place to cruise. I live in Casper WY an plan probably joining up in Buffalo WY if you come across I-90. Anyony comming up from the south an wants to meet in Caper. Plenty of motels, auto stores, etc an good car club to help out if you need unexpected help. Let me know.

I can tell you one area not to stay in on the North side of KC, stay away from Platte City, the police there do not like people with noisy cars, and really do not like young people with noisier than average cars. I know this from experience on two occasions. First experience was just driving through in my college roomate 67' Mustang and we get pulled over for some BS exhaust violation. So when they pull us out of the car they decide to detain him since he had an out of state drivers license. When we asked for an explanation the cop told us that it is their standard procedure to detain any person that they pull over that has a license from a state that does not border Missouri. The only problem with his argument is that Nebraska actually does border Missouri. I personally think that they simply felt like inconveniencing us that day. The second experience was at a hotel in Platte City, I was in town with the same friend, and both of our then girlfriends for the weekend, when some idiot went on a window shooing out spree during the night. I was the first one to discover it and we called the cops in the middle of the night. Well evidently the Platte City police do not like to be awoke during the night becasue they blamed the spree on us until they decided that they had enough entertainment for the night and let us off the hook. So my advice to anyone who is in the KC area is to stay out of Platte City, expecially if you have anything about you that makes you stand out from a crowd, such as an old car. There are plent of places to say right across from the airport, I have a good friend who live just south of the airport, I will give him a call and see what he would suggest.

I just got off the phone with my Sister-in-law, she lives 10 miles from Rapid City. She works for Cat Buttler in RC, and can use the company to reserve rooms at the Ramkota which is right on I-90! She needs to know how many rooms, and the exact date. She can't remember how much the discount is, so she will call tomorrow and then let me know!! My wife and I hope to meet up with you guy's in Rapid.

I just got my taxes back from my tax lady-------------------------THERE WENT MY GAS AND MOTEL MONEY FOR THE CRUISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the only option is to put my wife out on the street for a couple of months!
Oh, can one of you pull a trailer for the cruise? If so, I can put the 70 on it and save the gas money! (well, it seemed like a good idea)

I'll ask Chuck. Hey Chuck, can you tow my 70 to Seattle so that I can save on gas? :)

Thanks for the offer/help with hotel in Rapid City, Brett. I'll PM you...

DZ, there's still time for you to recover from the tax hit between now and August. I guess that high taxes are the burden you have to bear when you make so much money! If the recovery doesn't go as planned, talk to Mike to see if he has room on the roll-back... He may have the "wheel lift" option on the back end of it. I imagine it'd be pretty boring, though, riding the whole way and only seeing th eback of the roll-back through the windshield. 'Course, having the top down might help a little...

I would love to go do this. I have a roadtripable Chevelle, my problem is time off. I'm trying to find a way to make this work.

Well, I'm still going, and looking forward to seeing the NW part of our country for the 1st time. Maybe it won't turn out like the old Chevy Chase "Vacation" movie.

We have an ACES member who would like to cruise with us all the way to Washington and back. Problem is, he'd like to have a co-pilot to enjoy the experience, keep him company, share the driving responsibilities, and the housing expenses. If this sounds like fun to you (and it will be!) you can contact: Doug Jennings 734-279-1728 for all the details.

For any of you that do not have lodging, I am about 25 minutes from Des Moines. I have a rec room with an extra bed. Only rules are, You must drink beer, enjoy good music and not be nuts. Other than that.. If anyone gets tight on money or loses their room for hotel reasons, My house is open. Its not much, but its quiet and safe. I will even have room to park one chevelle under my carport. It is a safe area, my 110 pnd Dobey will protect the car.

Well, he is well fed and gentle if your a welcome person. I promise nobody will touch your car though. Behind the gate is his area. Yes, he is trained NOT to pee on tires or paint and he does not jump up.

As for the beer, first box is on me, after that its 50/50 but I will show you how to run the coffee pot before you pass out.

I also have to add, you must not be a vegatarian.. I grill a mean steak.

We'll be meeting the cruise at the Super 8 motel in Kansas City, Friday, August 12th with Pizza for the participants.
Some of us are going to join up there and cruise for a portion of the trip but not sure how many.

Hi Deane , I vote with Dan on the Kansas City steaks or BBQ, wait a minute, this Eastern North Carolina BBQ is the best in the land so it must be steak.
See you Friday evening.

Rocky

I haven't talked to anyone about cruising up together but sounds like a good idea, especially since I'm not for sure where the place is.

Chuck thinks they SHOULD be here around 5:00 - 5:30PM.

BTW, I gave him your cell number along with mine, Rick's, John's and Ted's.
Ted will probably be working though (I just now thought of)

Sorry guys I'm not in charge of the food (or the check book) :(

Yep, I just beat the crew to the Kansas City motel stop by a few minutes last evening to find Gary Chmielelewski waiting there to join the cruise.
Chuck was pretty close with his estimate on the time of arival.

We're having a great time! We picked up Larry Mack in Wyoming today. We had to replace the starter on his car this evening, but that's really the only trouble we've had. Gas is about $2.49 to $2.79 so far.

Just arrived in upper Seattle today. Ran into a little rain coming from Spokane. Went first from San Diego to Reno, then up to Spokane. Going to do the Seattle downtown tourist thing on Thursday and then into Kent on Friday. It would sure have been nice to have done the cruise. But it's kind of hard when your starting point is San Diego.

Well, we will be rolling back into Nashville tomorrow evening. It's been a great trip creating new friends, and memories we will cherish forever. This is really a beautiful country. I can't see why anyone would want to go anywhere else for a vacation.
It's been a pretty fast pace going back this week, but at least we have an idea what it looks like in different areas. I hope this can become an annual event, and more people can join us along the way.
