All this talk about Chevelle-abration has got me pumped up already. We need to get an I-40 convoy organized for those traveling that route to Nashville. Probably everyone from Oklahoma and points west would be on I-40. Plus, those from Texas can hook up in Little Rock if they travel up I-30. What do you guys think? Would look pretty neat with 10 to 15 velles and elkys running together.

Good idea Danny. What day do you propose. A few of us have been meeting in the LR area for a few years now. It's about like herding ducks, but it can be done.

Danny,
GOOD LUCK, I've tried to do this every year and never had any success-------------except last year---------------and that was by accident!!!!! Just before getting to Little Rock on Tue nite, my radiator said pi$$ on it------------------literally! So Zac and I spent the nite in the car in the Little Rock Police parking lot. Next morning we waited for a local radiator shop to open. Pulled the radiator, had it repaired and by pure luck, BobFmTyler was just coming into LR. So, 3 of us hooked up the rest of the way to CB04. First time I've ever caravaned to CB with others.
Our plan this year is to leave the Okla City area, east on I-40, Tue, sometime AFTER 4pm. What I have always done in years past, is drive east until we get tired, pull into a rest stop along I-40, sleep til dawn, then head on into N'ville.
If we can get a group together, or meet somewhere, I'M IN!!!!!

Jan 15th, 05, 9:48 AM
Tom...surely we can pull this off with almost 5 months of planning. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

First things first....I had planned on making the drive on Wednesday....arriving Wednesday afternoon or night. Sounds like that matches you and BobFmTyler.

BobFmTyler
Jan 15th, 05, 10:57 AM
OK Ticketmaster, you heard the man, you have 5 months to get your ducks in a row. Wednesday is the day to be at I 30 and I 40 in North Little Rock. Anyone else?

DZAUTO
Jan 15th, 05, 2:34 PM
How about the LR McDonalds, 9-10am? I believe it is near the intersection of I-30 and Hiway 70.

DZAUTO
Jan 15th, 05, 2:53 PM
Yep, that's where it is, I just looked it up on the McD website. The address is 600 E Broadway in NORTH Little Rock. But by no means am I locked in to that as a meeting place or time. I'm totally flexible.

Chuck Nixon
Jan 15th, 05, 6:40 PM
OK, count me in as BobFmTyler and I will be coming over from Texas and arguing all the way about how fast or slow I am going! Bob this will be tougher than herding ducks, this will be like herding CATS!

With 5 months to figure this out we will probably all agree about 10:00 PM on the day before we meet in Little Rock. I am assuming this means we force Mr. Tom and son to get a good nights sleep in Little Rock Tues PM and we can all feel safer about being on the road with him awake on Wed!

This means Bob and I meet up in Mt. Pleasant about noon Tuesday and get to Little Rock sometime after 5:00 PM.

Let's the planning continue....................

I only mentioned this McD location because it is where we met last year after I left the radiator shop. The radiator shop owner gave me directions from his shop to I-30 and Bob was coming that way so we just got off there and hooked up. As I said, I'm open to most anywhere and any time.
Zac and I will be leaving OKC Tue pm, probably make it about as far as LR, sleep, and head out Wed am.
From my viewpoint, a McD always makes a good meeting place because they are so easy to spot by anyone from a distance.

OK, here's what I found--there is a McDonald's at the LR Port exit on I440 E that has plenty of room for parking off of the lot, and it isn't in a bad area to congregate.

To get there if you're coming up I30 from Texas--take Exit 138 (I440 East) off of I30, go to Exit 5, turn left at the stop sign & look for McD's on your left.

If you're coming from I40, take Exit 153B (I30 W). As you go over the river look to your left & you'll see the Clinton Presidential Library. It's the thing that looks like a trailer home on stilts. Get in the far left lane when you cross the river, take Exit 138 (I440 E) and then do the same as above.

The morning rush hour traffic is pretty bad here, but not like Dallas or OK City. It will take a little longer to get to I440, but once we're there, it's a straight shot out of town and we won't be in heavy traffic.

If you're going to stay in LR Tuesday and need a safe place to park your trailer, I have room for 4 or 5 trailers at my place. Let me know if you're staying overnight & I'll tell you where to find the better motels.

See ya in June. graemlins/waving.gif

I think you guys are trying to make it tuff. How about some place on I40 around 440. That way people coming from the West on I40 won't have to come off it. I30 people have to go that way too and I know there is nothing at I30 and I40.

As for Hotels, the LaQuinta at Otter Creek has room and has highway access. The Holiday Inn (Express ?) at Shackleford is a decent hotel but access and parking is not quite as good. There is a Hampton next to I30 at Geyer Springs Rd. (sp) with parking but the neighborhood behind is not that great. I can't say much about hotels on I40.

Sorry BL, I don't live in LR but I bet I stay in more hotels there than you do. :D

Sorry BL, I don't live in LR but I bet I stay in more hotels there than you do. :D [/QB]I'm sure you do Bob. Another alternative is to meet east of Little Rock, like in Lonoke or Carlisle. It's always difficult to get everyone on the same page. For example, when do ya'll want to arrive in Goodlettsville? Anywhere from 3PM to 5PM is cool with me, what are your thoughts?
Gas stops and liquid releasing stops will be different among us, how do we deal with that? Some folks are like camels and never have to stop, and others are afflicted with varying degrees of TB (Tiny bladder) syndrome and can't pass a rest area without checking it out.

My plan was to leave LR at 7:30AM, drive at a legal pace, take a leisurely lunch (probably in Jackson) and get there in 7 to 8 hours.
BTW, I neither wish to nor will be allowed to be the head of this convoy. I'm a follower, not a leader! smile.gif
Comments and ideas are appreciated. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I agree that hooking up on the east side of Little Rock would be better. Some may be coming in from the north on 67, so I think the meeting place needs to be past the 440 interchange.

Mapquest says it's 350 miles from LR to Nashville with a time of 5 hours-22 minutes. Sounds about right if I remember correctly. If we add an hour for stops and plan a 4:00PM arrival, that means we leave LR no later than 9:30. That will work for me. I (and possibly some others) have a pretty good drive (3 hours) to get to Little Rock that morning.

If your schedule puts you into OKC on Mon pm, and you want to stop, spend the night, take a break, fix a flat, change oil or whatever, you will be welcome to come to our place and spend the night or whatever. Dave,
If you should make it here (Mustang is just on the west edge of OKC). There is a small motel here in Mustang, its nice and clean, fine for just an overnight sleep. It's about $39/night. If you want, for added security, you can park the cars at my house, I have a 6car garage. We could charcoal hamburgers, pork chops or whatever here and get a head start on the festivities for CB05.

The McDonalds at the Little Rock Port exit on 440 is a good location with with parking and a nice hotel adjoining the property. It is a low conjestion area and is only 5 miles of interstate off of I40. Thats just my 2 cents on that location.

The am traffic into Little Rock is only bad between 7 to 8:30 am then its fine after that.

I'll drive I40 home from work a couple of days this week and try to locate the best place to meet east of Little Rock. Right off the top I'm thinking the Hazen exit #192. I know that there is Shell station there with truck parking behind it and a new hotel right next to it. It's 40 miles east of Little Rock. I'll let you know what I find about the other exits.

Danny, do you think the radiator shop DZAUTO mentioned is the one where we looked at the 64?

Chris

I found I40 and I440 on Mapquest, which way to the McDonalds from here?

DZAUTO
Jan 30th, 05, 2:17 PM
Chris,
The radiator shop is right next to the bridge (east side of bridge) that crosses over 2 railroad tracks on Asher street. But I can't remember the name of it!

Actually, looking at the map, I think it is right there where Wright, Asher and Thayer intersect.

Ark68SS
Jan 30th, 05, 6:43 PM
Chris, he's talking about Arkansas Radiator Works, great people & shop, I've done business with them for years. That wouldn't be the guy you're thinking of, 'cause Eddie isn't into classic cars at all.

Tom, the LR Port exit is Exit 5 on I440. It's the exit next to the south shore of the Arkansas River. There's a Travelodge and McDonald's side by side at the exit. You would go South on I440 off of I40 to get there.

Danny & Chris are correct that it'd probably be easier to meet on I40 east of LR, either Lonoke, Carlisle, or Hazen. I know the Lonoke exit has a McD's next to the freeway. Angee always has to stop there when we leave LR to either drain or refill or both.

We'll get it figured out-there's still 127 days left.

Bill, Tom, we looked at the 64 at DD Radiator on 4th street, about 5 blocks west of the Arena. Since its not much farther for me to take I40 home I will check all the exits for the best meeting place, I'll consider parking, hotels and security for anyone who may decide to stay the night at the meeting place. Made my hotel reservations at the Goodlettsville Best Western yesterday and I'm ready to go!

So, my vote is to meet at McDs at Lonoke, Ark on Wed.

I know Danny, I think I'm "obsessive compulsive". I buy cars with the intent to sell and make a profit, then I like them too much and keep them. I dont list my 65 Grand Prix or either of my 66 GT Fairlanes or my 67 Cougar GT or 68 Cougar GTE. I'm going to have a big sale soon though, thats what I told my wife.

Tom, your probubly right and Lonoke is a pretty good spot. There's also a large gas station there with a lot of parking.

I just checked with the ON-Line reservations for the Super-8 motel in Lonoke Ark (cheapest I can find). If reservations are made on line, the rate is $48/nite (I called the motel direct and it is higher to make a direct reservation with the motel). At this time, they have several rooms available (smoke/non-smoke) for Jun 7, but Summer is a busy time and if anyone wants to stay there Tue nite, it would probably be good to make reservations now! The girl that answered the phone at the motel said they have a nice parking area in front of the entrance and the police patrol regularly. This is well away from the Little Rock area and it AT LEAST sounds like a good spot to spend the night.
Pull up Super-8 in Lonoke and check the place out and see what you think. It is also right next to the McDonalds where we have discussed meeting and leaving from Wed am.
I think that I will go ahead and make a reservation now.
The phone number for on-line reservations is 800-576-0003.

When we get a little closer to the travelling date we can call you about estimated time of arrival in Memphis but if we are together at 10:00 AM in Little Rock, leave about 10:30 AM and head East then averaging 60 MPH you can sort of figure when we will get there assuming no stops for lunch etc.

Exit 12 gives us a lot of different venues. One place that's been recommended there is the Cajun Catfish resturant. They have a large parking lot & I've been told by a reputable Memphis native the food is delicious. I know some of us prefer fish (right Danny?? :D ) and there are other places nearby if you don't want to eat there.

This would give us a central meeting place to leave from after everyone gets their fill.

Any of you guys have those small walkie talkie type hand held radios? Think they are called Family Radio Service or something like that. Makes traveling as a group convenient. My son Matt will be escorting me in case of trouble with the elky and we will be using them along the way. Cheaper than roaming charges on a cell phone. ;)

I have two of them and so does the old Tyler guy. We will be using them on the trip. We could all decide to set ours to a certain channel but the range is limited to 1-5 miles.

I have four Motorola walkie talkies that we could spread amongst the group. I guess we can find out which ones are compatible with the others (radios that is). The convoy won't be more that five miles long will it??

For folks traveling up hwy 30 from Texarkana to Little Rock, I understand construction is still bad around Benton (just west of LR). You need to try to miss rush hours. Try to clear there before 3:30 pm or after about 7 pm. Mornings going north are even worse. They have lots of concrete dividers and the lanes are narrow. Them Arkansas drivers and 18 wheelers don't give us chevelle pullers much slack.

Thay've pretty much finished the construction on I-30. It's 3 lanes both ways now from Benton on in. The bad spots now are on I-40 from the I-430 exit to the I-30 interchange. Very narrow lanes, especially over the Levy bridge, and sometimes some lane closings. I'll keep an eye on the paper next week & update ya'll if there are any problems.

BTW, it's not the Arkansas drivers, it's the ones coming up here from Texas who create the problems.:D

Bill, that's good to know. How about Benton west? Tom and Dave will be coming on 40. They will enjoy the construction. Chuck and I have had it for 5 years now.

Oh your wrong Bob!
Through MOST of Ark along I-40 the construction has been a mess the previous 4yrs! Although, last year, it seemed to be a little less.

Yea, being the good looking guy from Fort Worth we should be easy to spot. I wear a wide brimmed straw hat to keep the sun burn at bay and I am about a foot taller than the little old guy from Tyler:D :D

OK Guys, If the ticketmaster can make it to Mt. Pleasant by 11 am Ft Worth Time (he's old and looses track of time frequently) we'll see you In Lonoke by mid afternoon Tuesday.

Hwy 30 to Hwy 40. If you have any problems you should have our cell numbers. My old blue car will be on the trailer but it runs if you have a problem and need to put your car up there instead.

There are about 3 Houston cars coming behind us but I think they are trying to drive straight through. :)

If anyone else would like to join us we'll be meeting at Lonoke on Tuesday evening and leaving there mid morning (or when ever the bunch gets there) Wednesday.

(BTW): I hope there's no mexican restaurants close to the meeting place. I'd hate to have Dave and the Ticketmaster singing again.............. :D

Hwy 30 to Hwy 40. :D

Just an FYI--When you come up I30, take the I440 exit and take I440 to I40. This way you miss all of the downtown traffic and it's quicker & closer to Lonoke.

If any of you get a wild hair & want to come by & visit or if you need a place to work on your car, the shop # is 501-868-5870. Take the Cantrell Rd (Highway 10) exit off of I430 & head west 7 miles. My place is on the right, when the highway goes from 3 lanes to 2 lanes, you're at my driveway. :waving:

Well, as of tonight the newest one speaks American & Canadian--we picked up Angee's new Magnum R/T & drove it home through a raging thunderstorm. It's a really nice car. That Hemi's got power out the wazooo!! Now it's gonna be 5 days before I get to drive it again, but at least I've got the Chevelle. Angee loves the car, & when she's happy, everybody's happy!! :D :D

I have a really light day planned tomorrow, so I'll be packing & getting ready for Wednesday morning. Can't wait to get this convoy rolling.:waving:
