Just moved to Redding, CA from Oceanside, CA. I was spedning my time at Carlsbad raceway, bust sadly it closed and I have since moved. Are there any local Chevelle clubs?? And where is the closest drag strip? I just bought a 65 Chevelle and am working on a 383 for it now. I would love to get it out on the track soon. Thanks!

Steve,

I used to live in Redding...

The Dragstrip is located on the East side of the Redding Municipal airport (an old runway actually)...

To get there you can drive out Hwy 44 to Airport Road/Old Oregon Trail, turn south... Head a few miles South to Rancho Road and Turn left (East) (before you get to the airport). Take Rancho to the end (about 1/2 mile or so). Turn South on Old Oregon Trail... about another 1/2 mile down you will HAVE to turn left (as going straight will be the main runway of the airport, its gated)... This winds around to the dragstrip... However, I think it might be closed for the winter...

As for a Chevelle club, I never knew of one, but I moved about 6-8 years ago...

I used to know several people with Chevelles in the area, and I think there are a few on this site too...

And think about that trip to Sac this weekend, even if you aren't bringing your Chevelle. Just watch the weather, if it rains, nobody else will show...

BTW, I have raced at 4 dragstrips (Fremont/Baylands, Sears Point/Infinion, Sacramento and Redding). Redding was BY FAR the most fun... Relaxed atmosphere, great people, and not too crowded (LOTS of runs). The Track needed a little work, but not bad. Of course, its been 10 years since I raced there...
