OK dudes, December will be the month this time around. Every weekend is open for this, Saturdays open at 9AM and ends at 3PM.

We will do another vote on which day would be the best for everyone, chime in here for the results.

Jeff K, Troy, Anthony, Rick, Beaux, Alan, Jay, Ray, RON, Chris M, Jeff M, and other area TCer's that want to attend that weekend chime in (Sac Chevelle guys...) And of course myself as well.

Get ready for tire smoke and maybe a couple of inches under some right side tires :D

this is gonna be sweet, ive got all the weekends in december free so im definitly in, i guess im the only elky driver so ill be haulin slicks up if anyone doesent have room, with the air in my airbags ive had my drum set, 2 big heavy PA systems and a big tool box in there without rubbing so i imagine a few sets of wheels and tires will be just fine.

Heck I just covered the 66 for the winter! Guess I may have to uncover it. The rollcage is going in the 65 in the next few weeks, we pulled the seats and carpet today. Bought an 8 point cage at Chris Alston's last week. Craig, what days do they race, either Fridays and Saturdays are good for us as long as we have a date so we can schedule to be off.

I'm in, I'll bring the Chevelle, and my good friend said he'd like to bring his beautiful roller-motored '65 Nova (which, btw, is going to be at Pleasanton indoors coming up).

My friend Marky (the TAD racer) said he'd like to come along too, and while they won't let him run his TAD car at a TnT night, I might be able to convince him to bring his '57 VW Bus, complete with a blown 454.

We've got lots of time, so whichever weekend works for others should work for me. And we should have a contingency plan as well for poor weather on the #1 choice weekend. Sac is a pit after rain, lotsa mud.

And, if anyone's wanting to carpool or ride, I'll have a few extra seats on the way up... graemlins/hurray.gif

I'm sure we could do it... if I was rich instead of a poor slob. I'm hoping to have her on the road by next summer, we'll see what happens. Heck it will probably take me 6 weeks just to get my floor pans in LOL!

Alright, great to see all of you guys willing to make the trek and get the cars out on the track for the first time. This will be my second time, still nervous, but it is so much fun. And after you make a couple of passes the fever kicks in, especially if your beating Mustangs over and over :D

I am trying to still swing tires, and I want to get adjustable uppers installed by the time we go as well. My pinion angle is off a bit, maybe Al could help me out here, did not you do this with your Impalla Alan?

Tony, see your post over in the performance section. Are you going to plan on having the cam swap done by the time we get to go? I would like to see your car out there again.

Hey Erwin, we can carpool if you want, that would be cool. Your ride is sweet dude, I'd like to see that Fab9 in action! Did you make it to the Hot Rods at the Beach show a few weeks ago? I went to Carlsbad raceway once a couple of years ago and saw this ricer being towed in on a trailer that was gutted, fiberglass front ent (full tilt) and a turbo engine. I was waiting for this car to run, figured he would pull off an 12 second run easy, nope 15.5 and could not get any lower. So....based on that 'full race' ricer car, you could tow one there, beat it , and tow it home.

Or just run Beaux's Tahoe. http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage22/16.gif

On a side note, wonder how many pages this thread will reach, any bets? http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/dontknow.gif

I can help you out Craig. I did this to the Chevelle after I installed the 9". I'll have to get another angle finder as I poached the magnet to score my keys out of the Delta Sunday ;)

I'm in for the TNT as well. I'll drag my POS Chevelle up there to blow the dust off it. Dec 4,11,or 18 all look OK at this point.

I don't know how far I'll get... Two babies really limits my free time... Doh! what was I thinking...

If its not running, then I was thinking that maybe I'd get you guys to stop by here after the TNT and teach me how to degree the cam... I hope I don't need to pull the whole motor (main problem is an oil leak)...

I was thinking of having a BBQ here (not sure if that would be a good idea because the TNT is over late, compared to the usual swap meet at Craig's, and it gets dark early, etc)... I do have plenty of room for trailer parking on my street though...

Of course, I really should run the BBQ idea by my wife first, before inviting a whole lot of people over... Think Ron will show? I'll start pumping up my legs now... I want the title...

I acquired an enclosed trailer and might be able to swing a trip south for some track time with Old Blue. Only got one day in this last summer due to my schedule. The new trailer should get me through the siskiyous
without too much trouble. Sacto is ony 8-9 hours smile.gif I won't commit until I can see the weather pattern....

Ron's calves looked larger last time he was over, you may be in trouble here...he can dead lift the front of a 77 Cadillac Deville, it's serious.

Wonder how long it would take to do the actual cam swap Tony? I was thinking if you could get the parts, and a few of us showed up a couple of weekends prior we could smack this down in a morning/afternoon session if there was some willing participants? I think Al has a degree wheel, (oh man I still need to buy him a piston stop, oops) then once done, it can be fired up a couple of hours later. Just a thought, don't know your finances or time plans for the next month or so.

what cam? Solid maybe? I need to check your post up top for some answers.

Hope to see you here, and your car ripping some 1/4 passes  Hey, what are the rules for a passenger riding along with someone down the track? I have heard it was anything under a 14.00 dail in it was a mandatory solo, anything over, a passenger could ride. Would be nice to give a ride to a couple of the guys, but we would have to hold back if so...just launch hard, then ease off smile.gif

Craig If I come I'll bring my extra slicks and drag radials. I scooped up a pair of 29x11.5 mickeys for $100 mounted on rallys. need to move them to other wheels due to back spacing but for the price I'm not complaining. I'm pretty sure no passengers 13.99 and quicker.

Well,

The wife said a BBQ/get-together it would be fine... I only have a gas BBQ though (I do have a small webber), so not sure on the flavor of the BBQ though...

Head to Golds Gym... I think not! Ron's got nothing on me (maybe I'll go squat some more Muncies and BBheads just to be sure)

The Cam swap: Thinking of going with a small solid, but we'll see. For those that didn't see the post, my Compression ratio is about 8.9:1, but with my HUGE cam, my DCR is down around 6.22... Not good (I'm just a poser anyway :D ). Just something cheap though, because I want to build another motor in the next few years (and something well though out).

Not sure when the cam will be done. I have plenty of money (don't tell the wife), its just the lack of time (and I need to drop the grill/front bumper to get the cam out). Hopefully I will at least have the tear-down completed by then...

I ran my old Dakota R/T at Sac with my wife riding shotgun and I think the cutoff was 14.00, but that was almost 6 years ago, don't know if track rules changed...

Jeff, if you are planning on staying at a hotel, let me know... I can give advice on some areas to avoid...a few hotels near me are pretty nice and not too far from the track (don't know prices though).

Jeff,

The orange crate got put on hold due to work and buying a house. The motor is at the machine shop and hopefully I can get back on it this weekend and get them some money, so it can be finished out. Just picked up the full manual TH400 last week. Then I had to put a new transfer case in the burb, a TPS in the Monte, pay more closing costs, pay for the TH400, pay for new tires for the burb.Been just hemorrhaging money it seems lately graemlins/clonk.gif . About ready to get back on track though. Prolly be spring when the crate becomes a driver. Still needs:
Moved to new home
Russ Francis harness installed
Gauges installed
Interior put together and installed
Needs Denny's Driveshaft*
Needs rear window chrome*
Needs brake master cylinder/booster installed
Engine/tranny/cooling sys installed

* only parts I don't physically have yet.

Anyways hoping for a clear Siskiyou pass smile.gif

Jay, that's too cool to hear. I know that Elkie had some electrical issues when he owned ut but overall it was in awsome original shape.

For those who don't know, my older neighbor owned an original 70 SS ElCamino LS5/TH400 and 3.31 axled car. It had factory A/C and it was Cranberry red/black stripes and vinyl roof.

the engine has never been apart either.

Is it a bucket seat/console car?

Hmmm... </font>[/QUOTE]Yes, the only thing that I remembered about it, the original wheels (SS) were long gone. He had some western wheels on there, something one would have to ditch ASAP. And I believe the car was a bench seat car with a column shifter, but cool otherwise. I don't recall seeing any rust either, it has always been sitting in a garage as well out of the elements.

Well, did some work the the Chevelle this weekend with positive results. I did some light work with the TV cable on the trans with much firmer shifting where I was having difficulties at part throttle. But full throttle has not been tested yet for the problematic full throttle 2-3 shift, maybe Sunday :D

The main problem I was having on Sunday, if I tightend up the TV cable where it wanted to be at idle and part throttle, when I go WOT, the slack adjuster would click to a more open position and my sweet part throttle setup would go back to where I did not want it. Maybe it is a geometery problem, I will look more into it this weekend.

So, aside from having to go to the dealer and pick up another oil filter adapter to try and fix my leak at the filter I am pretty much ready to go

bigblockelky
Nov 10th, 04, 4:04 AM
thats where my damn oil leak is.. the filter, that and a small one where the mech. oil pressure gauge taps in, i hate leaky oil pressure gauges ( read cheap sunpro pieces of crap). i want to have a 2800 stall in by track time, depends on funds and spare time though. im going to the dyno shop next weekend to get a baseline and possibly do some fine tuning if needed. my buddy with his 01 ss is coming along with us, as is our friend with an 04 mach 1 that runs 12.80's on the motor and 12 flat on the bottle, might have Doug Betts bringing his mid 11 second skylark too.

I dusted my chevelle in the garage this weekend. Then I put all the boxes, door panels, old rugs and chrome trim back on the roof and deck lid...on top of the car, where I store it.

Then I sat on my front seats that are stored in my office. Felt good.

No oil leaks, though. :D

Let's keep this one alive, the Turlock events need to hold the tradition of ruling this forum.

So, is everyone OK with the 4th for this? Also, if Troy is still up for holding a BQ at his place afterwards, any other suggestions if not?

Car should be ready, looking for traction will be my biggest challenge. I don't expect to ET very well, but should MPH OK if I have to use my BFG's. No big deal, it's all just bragging rights, right?

I vote Troy's car will MPH the fastest, unless Jeff K has the chohones to keep in his throttle, then it is up in the air to who will be the king of TC.

Nov 15th, 04, 1:46 PM
I'm in, checking with my wife to see if we have something already going for that weekend but I think we're good to go.

I'll also be extremely traction limited, and the first few runs will no doubt be 1/8 mile blasts until I trust the suspension and brakes smile.gif

Heck, I'll even run the mighty Excursion down the 1/4 if there's not too many people, and I'll try to convince wifey to bring the Cobra too.

I can bring brew for the after activities if folks are interested, and am open to suggestion on what to do after, BBQ at Troy's, or ...? Sounds good to me!

bigblockelky
Nov 15th, 04, 3:50 PM
im almost positive ill have my cam, manifold and stall in for the track, so there will be another 12 second car in the mix, by the time i do that though the rest of you will be in the 11's.. ill never win..lol.

Also, if Troy is still up for holding a BQ at his place afterwards, any other suggestions if not? Craig, I think that was me, TONY that was talking about the BBQ earlier in this post (unless Troy mentioned BBQ at the Castle event this last weekend)...

I live about 10-12 miles from Sac Raceway, in Elk Grove, south of the racetrack and close to 99 and I-5 for those travelling along those routes...

I already okay'd a BBQ, etc with the wife... I have a fairly clean, roomy 3-car garage to hang out in, and some brand new patio furniture to break in... There are no houses across the street (undeveloped), so plenty of room for trailers... Only drawback, a gas BBQ (I do have a small weber though)...

I'd love for you guys to come over and BS for a while... with the two little babies, its hard for me to get away for more than a few hours (at least without getting nagged when I get home). I figure a few hours at the track is about it...

Doubt I will get my cam swap ready by then... But maybe have my other BB up on its stand by then...

Tony, Troy did offer up a BBQ hangout pad at his place when we were together this last weekend. I did mention your name when the topic came up, and said we could hit up your place but your wife mentioned that she did not want it going to late if I remember correctly (if I am wrong please correct me smile.gif ). I just know a few of us are 9PM'ers so don't know if she, or you, are up for that. Parking on the curb will be great across the street for all of us racers though. I am open for anything, majority rules on this one.

A couple guys at work have some pretty trick cars, so I'm trying to convince them to bring them out to TNT.

One of the guys has a '36 Chevy truck, blown small block, tubbed, slammed, channelled, etc., best ET 9.88.

The other guy has 3 cars - A Mclaren F1, Enzo Ferrari and a Lambo Murcielago. He apparently takes the F1 to Infineon occasionally, so it's not a trailer queen smile.gif

I'm trying to get them to bring the cars for some quarter mile time smile.gif

Not sure if I'll be successful but I'll continue to try... :D

That's what I want to hear! Damn, 9.5% is slightly potent. Kind of like Sierra Nevada Big Foot. Can't have but a few of them 9.5s before I feel kinda funny ;)

I'm having a Shiner Bock 22ozer sitting in my hotel room here in Austin, TX. Finally got me some Internet access this week. Oh, I'd rather have your '67 Chevelle than a Mclaren. Raw dogg.

Jeff, I would FREAK OUT if a McLaren F1 pulled up in our group to run. Gees man, pull some strings and get that car here, and knock the owner out as soon as he steps out of the car, grab the keys, and hand those puppies to me. Holy moly.

Is this friend of yours in the oil for food program? Dang, that alot of $$$ sitting right there....

well i had a blast yesterday, tranny popped after i did a few g-tech runs, the car was running real slow and shifting wiered, so i was going home to see what was up and BAM lost 2nd and 3rd about 2 blocks from my house, notice that it didnt do it during a run.. waited till i was almost home.. if it were a ford it would have left me out there in the middle of no where ( just kidding, i like anything thats fast no matter what badge it wears... for the most part and hondas excluded). so as of today its sitting on the lift at performance tranny in hilmar, they are building it to handle my planned power output and giving me a 3000 stall, fairly decent price too, should be pretty bullet proof when its done. it doese however throw a wrench in my cam/intake plans, at worst though the car will be quicker with the stall and the new fuel pump i have sitting here waiting for it ( the stock ones only putting out 2-3 psi.. thats pretty low isnt it?) who know how much the tranny has been messing up my et's. long story short i may still be in the 13's at the track unless i sell the blazer int he next few days and have parts waiting here to throw at the car when its done.

Craig, thanks for the offer on the help, if i get my stuff i might need it, chances are i wont though so if you need help with your car, i ll be more than happy to help ya, not that i know much but i can turn some wrenches or something.

Kinzli, tell your co worker well go a one round K1 bout for the keys to that f1 for an hour :D

Jay, man sorry to hear about your trans woes. I know the feeling, but you will notice a positive increase in performance with the new trans and converter. Depending on how tight the thing is, the engine should 'flash' up to the advertized stall speed from a heavy footed stop or low speed punch. Then the tires go up in smoke, and the quest begins for traction and wanting to go faster and faster smile.gif

I noticed a huge difference in the way my engine reacted to power input against the stall converter compared to a stock type setup, and the way the chassis reacted to it as well. It made the largest improvement in how well the car performed around town, idled in gear, and soon to be tested at the track. You will be able to power into the engine at low speeds in any gear, and put the powerband of the engine in it's sweet spot and off ya go in a hurry. Before, your car at low speeds had to wait for the engine to reach that RPM before the car started really moving. Now, no more waiting, I think you will love it.

2-3 lbs of fuel pressure is quite low. Is that at idle or under power? If it is under power/full throttle at speed, it might not be the pump.

Craig,

im hoping for the performance gain, the stall wont be too loose but it wont be too tight either , he said ill flash to 3000-3200, i dotn want to swing too high since i drive the car alot every day, i remember that my caprice felt like it lost a few hundred pounds with the 3k vigilante that i got, so im hoping for the same type of thing, it went froma 14.9 to a 14.6 with the stall ( first thing i did... or had done rather) do any of you guys use yahoo instant messenger or anything?

Jay, hope you get your ride back on the road in time for Sacto. Sucks you might not get the cam and manifold upgraded in time. At least you'll have a fresh tranny and converter to beat on!

I think the women are intimidated by me, so they all go and hide when I walk in the door ;) . I'm not looking to hook, just looking to be looking :D

Here's my deal for the races: I got a Bank Holiday dinner/party that starts at 6pm. Meaning I gotta be home by 5pm Dec. 4th to clean up and get pimped for the party. That leaves me with blowing out of Sacto at 2:30pm. I think it's doable. I can't hang around for the after race B.S. though :( . Nothing has or will be done to make my car faster than what I did at Redding in April. The $$$ just isn't available at the moment. It'll be fun though!

Oh, and has anyone decided on where we will be going afterwards? I have not seen any posts from Tony or Troy yet.My place is far from ideal (compared to Craig's "on the strip"), but roomy enough for a get together... I have a 3-car garage (tandem with the convertible in back) thats mostly empty.

I think Troy will be 20-25 minutes further than my place, based on him being about 30 minutes from Jody's( I think thats what he said in a previous post). That means I'm closer to Sac Raceway (get to my place sooner, which is nice with limited daylight), but Troy's will be closer to home for most of you (so maybe more convenient).

Craig, Staying at my place until 9 PM??? Probably not a big problem, although I have to give my daughter a bath and usually watch the new baby while the wife showers-between 7PM and 8PM (doesn't mean everybody has to leave, just that I need to go in the house for a little while to help, but I can come back out after)...

Going to try to find a space heater for my garage this weekend (need that anyway)... I have nice new patio furniture in my garage right now, so comfortable seating for 8-10 at least... Need some speakers and I could have a nice stereo setup in the garage.

I am in a subdivision (with speed bumps), so no racing like at Craig's (I guess thats gonna be missed with Craig moving)... But a large, fairly empty 6-lane divided Boulevard is only a block away (for any beat-runs anyone wants to make)... Stores are close by for necessities... Refridge in garage, lots of room for beer... Undeveloped land across the street and I have a wide lot (for a subdivision), so plenty of parking, even trailers...

Not trying to "sell" my place as the better place, its just more convenient for ME, thats all... After a few hours at the race track, I don't think I could make it to Troy's (trying to keep the wife happy so when UPS drops off "packages" she doesn't freak out). My wife is really very nice. At least if I am home, I can help my wife/watch the daughter as needed...

I have been out of the scene for the last several meets, so many guys might not know me (Jeff, Troy, Rick, Shane, etc). Troy is more familiar to most of you... I have a few local "new" Chevelle guys that want to check it out.

Where does Troy actually live? Lodi? Stockton?

Troy does have a killer car to drool over (my convertible's okay, but no blower, no EFI, etc)...

Yeah, so I'd like to host, but thats because I miss/crave the socialization that I have been lacking, and hosting would allow me to get my fill... But its alot of work, so it really doesn't matter, whatever everyone else decides...

Lets hear what Troy has...

Tony, is your garage refrigerator big enough for 2 soda kegs full of beer? :D

(you can see what I'm concerned about and where my priorities are)

Just kidding. Sounds good to me, either place works. How do your neighbors feel about loud cars and louder, aging TC folks? We wouldn't want to make ya look bad! :D For me either place is a long drive, so either place is good.

Most neighbors don't mind... Immediate next-door neighbors; one has Flowmasters on his newer pickup, and the other used to before he sold it... A few others have friends/family with hot rods... A few neighbors are a little conservative (safety minded with kids), so burnouts and racing aren't really acceptible (even though I have done a few myself), but maybe when leaving... Pretty big spacing between houses (20-30 feet), so a good noise buffer anyway... I also have a few buddies usually stop over here on their way to Hot August Nights, so my neighbors know me...

About accomodations: it really doesn't matter much to me where we meet up afterwards.

I do have clearance from "the rents" for people over at my place if that's what everyone wants to do (in fact, my Dad is largely in support of more horsepower sitting in the driveway...) For those of you wanting to check mileage/distance, I'm basically at where Hwy 99 and 8 Mile Road intersect, which is about 35 miles or so from Sacto Raceway.

I do have plenty of parking, ample "lounging area" and a BBQ, and a swimming pool (if anyone wants to freeze their you-know-whats off, or better yet I could just throw Jeff's kegs in there to keep them cool, LOL), and I have some very good "test and tune" roads just a few minutes away.

Alan, itll definitly be back by track day, should have it back by tuesday of this coming week, case was cracked and everything inside thrashed, the main support was snapped and wedged into the case so i needed a whole new core, they found one from their supplier, those damn 350's are getting harder to find since everything is all electronic now. i could have gone with a 400 but i spent a little more to have a 350 built to handle some power, they are offering the same warranty because they have been building 350's like the one im getting for a number of years they are a bit lighter and i didnt want to change my drive shaft lenght since i will be going with a 200-4r in the future. manifold and cam wontbe done but fuel pump, new 3" exhaustand stall/tranny will so it should be a hair quicker hopefully anyway , Jeff i added you to mybuddy list well chat it up some time.

Great... just great. Things are not looking good for me to be there on the 3rd. A few big issues have happened in the last few days:

1. Started tuning the heavy throttle parts of the car today, and at 5000 rpm and not even at wide open throttle I'm already at 82% injector duty cycle. I don't really want to push them over 90%, and with more throttle left and another 1700 rpm to go I think I'm going to need bigger injectors. I wanted 65 lb/hr units when I had the intake made, but the guy talked me into 52# injectors. He's built more blown EFI motors than I have so I trusted him even though the math on my end said 52# probably wasn't going to be enough. Hopefully he'll swap them for free. Still gotta tear the intake apart though to change them.

2. I think something in the rear end is letting go. It's behaving very oddly at low speeds, especially in turns, popping occasionally. And I have a "surging" vibration at &gt;70 mph that is getting more noticeable every time I drive it. I have a hunch it's a pinion bearing. So time to yank the rear end out for a teardown/inspection. Last thing I want to do is have it grenade on me at an inopportune time. The sucker only has about 16,000 miles on it... albeit hard ones. :D

Everytime we hold a BBQ or go racing the group gets bigger and bigger and that's what it is all about. Great friendships have formed doing exactly this, would be nice to have someone we all have not met yet attend with us.

The gates will be open by 9AM (racing by 11AM-3PM), to get setup, and I think the earlier the better for most of us bringing cars in to run. This gives us a chance to unwind, and get tech'ed in for the day. Us southern guys will be caravaning up, and would be glad to meet up with anybody for breakfast, or just to join in.

As it gets closer we will take a head count on who is driving together, who is needing a ride etc. I think David needed a ride up (lives in Modesto), so I may have a seat for him if nobody is coming from the area (Elco Joe?).

I will post and let you all know what time and places to meet up and hit the hwy if we wanted to get a group going. I will probably have my wife follow me up in the family cruiser to make the rice comfy for the kids and her, so if anybody wants to tag along with me, don't be shy to ask.

Honestly, I'm hoping it IS raining next Saturday and we have to delay a week. Because there's no way my car will be ready for next Saturday. Here's the rundown:

I yanked the rear end out today to try and find my bad vibration problem. I found the following:

1. One of the spherical joints on one upper rear control arm had worked loose. While you can tighten it back up, you need a 4-pin drive tool to adjust them which of course was not provided with them. (Thanks Edelbrock!) I'm going to have to make my own tool because I'm not sending the arms back to Edelbrock every time they need a little tightening, which they will need as they wear.

2. One of my lower rear control arm mounting bolts was just a tiny bit loose. It was on with a locknut so it wouldn't back completely off, but it was just a bit loose. Time for new locknuts!

3. The upper rear bushings on the rear end (rubber) are TOTALLY shot. They're cracked all the way through. Not good for holding the rear in position or maintaining pinion angle. Definately have to change those.

4. I haven't disassembled the rear end yet, but there is some play in the yoke. I can rock it up and down and forward and back slightly, so the yoke obviously not bottomed out against the crush sleeve. As such I'm sure the pinion bearings are shot since they didn't have proper preload on them. I'll know for sure tomorrow when I disassemble it completely. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the gearset is OK, otherwise there's an "easy driving" 500 mile break-in of a new gearset.

If the 4th looks good, I'll still run up there to check things out, but I won't have a fast car to bring. DOH!

Any decision on where the "after race festivities" will be?

Troy

Craig, if you decide to spend the night, let me know where so we can keep an eye on each others cars. I haven't decided yet myself though.

Troy, come on man! smile.gif My rear bearings are about shot too but I'm waiting til after the event to pull the axles, etc. Just razzin ya man, hope you can make it, car or no car.

Craig, I'll probably take the 152 over to 5 I guess. I'm happy to meet ya anywhere if we can. I'll probably be leaving around 6 or 6:30 am to get to sac by 9:30 hopefully.

Weather is reporting partly cloudy for the weekend, looks like we're home free! :D

LOL Jeff!

Actually, if it was just the pinion bearings I would still drive the thing, but it's the shot control arm bushings and the one loose upper control arm joint that scared me. I would hate it if the car stranded me at the track and I had to arrange a tow or have a friend come up with his trailer.

The vibrations were so bad when I drove the car on Friday that as you hit 75 mph it only took about 10 seconds until all the rear view mirrors (inside and outside) were pointed towards the ground from the vibration! It was that bad. It really felt as if the car was going to totally shake apart. So I had to call it quits and tear it down.

Oh well, I'm going to go clean the rear end then pull the gears out and see what kind of carnage is inside...

:(

well.. who says we cant have another track day when your all done, ill be game for any track days and im sure most of the rest of us will too.. thats the whole point ( or major one anyway) of having our beasstly machines. new years races are cool but theres too many cars to get any good runs in usually. last year my friend had some tranny trouble so he rented a mazda 6 and took it to the track.. that was fun, nothing like running a 15.40 every time all night long into the finals.. sure pissed alot of fast cars off..lol

I just finished fabbing a tool and tightening the one loose Edelbrock upper. Woohoo!

The bad news is my pinion bearings are SHOT. I'm amazed they weren't making any noise. There was no metallic debris in the oil (odd, but good) and the gears look very good so I get to re-use those. I can't blame anyone but myself for this one, as I obviously didn't tighten the new 1350 yoke quite enough when I installed it; it was just barely not pushing the front bearing against the crush sleeve. Oops!

It'll be a rush but if my friend who helped me set the rear end up last time is free this week I should be able to get the thing ready for Saturday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Tony or Troy, I'd like to drop off the keg of beer and ice on the way in, so it might be around 9:30 or so, is that ok? Jeff, No problem for me...

Spending the night in the area sound like a decent idea, I may kick the idea around with the wife if we do any late partying afterwards. It would be cool to get a hotel room in the same place to have a block party. Craig,

There is a Holiday Inn Express nearby (about 2 miles from my place), at 99 and Laguna Blvd (Stockton Blvd) in Elk Grove...

My wife was going to marinate some meat for the BBQ, but we need to know if its gonna be here or not, and about how many people... need to plan...

Anyone know if Ron is showing? Trying to decide if I should pump the calves up for a little extra

Hi Tony, sounds like a lotta fun to be had. I finally got my Chevelle running. No more flat cams! Maybe I can bring it to the drags to see what it'll do, probably 13 something but I sure need to do something about the factory shifter. Any more details on the drags? Best, Raymond Ray,
I'd love to see how your car looks... If you get the chance to come over to my place after, you can check out my projects...

Tony, I will consider the Holiday inn, depends on Jeff K that the decision will be made. Let's make the cutoff by Friday on this Jeff. Thanks for the heads up Tony smile.gif

Also, I would like to see Tony and hang out with him, and the wife (my wife loves babies too) so I guess if it dos not bother Troy too much, Tony's place is OK with me. If it works out that way, we could do Troy's rents place the next time or whenever we feel like getting the road crew together, if the consensus is Tony't this time around.

Troy, sorry to hear you are having problems. I know what it is like rebuilding one of the 12 bolts, it's alot of work period. Even though we all would like to see your car there, I will fully understand if it does not work out. Keep us updated...

He'd need someone to drop him off in Cupertino on Sunday. Anyone else here want to help Ron out? I'm sure he's good for a little gas $$.

Troy, using trick aftermarket parts is great huh? Works awesome, but sure needs TLC here and there!! I hope you get it all sorted out soon. I want to ask you some questions about your A/C setup and the steering intermediate shaft. Maybe we could chat at the races.

Craig,

There's also an Extended Stay America ($68+, about 1/2-the-price of the Holiday Inn) nearby too, about 2.5 miles away... Its fairly new.

There are two "Motel 6's" a few miles away, but they're not in an area I would have my car overnight...

I guess I will try to get a final count on Thursday/Friday, and make a Costco run Friday evening for Tri-tip and ???

I think the automotive gods are trying to send me a message... In addition to the problems with the Chevelle this weekend, my daily driver 'Vette decided to eat a headgasket today! All day today the low coolant light would come on when I got my foot into it, then it would go away if I drove it nice and easy for a few minutes. Got home, popped the hood, revved it up to 4000 and sure enough, TONS of bubbles and coolant out the overflow tank, plus a smell like exhaust.

It does NOT look like fun pulling the heads on that thing. Close quarters plus tons of 17 year old plastic stuff like connectors and vacuum lines that I know are gonna break on me when I try and take them apart.

I'll still be there Saturday though, just in a borrowed vehicle. :D

tony's place then? Good for me, then it is off to Extended stay america. Jeff, if we are to party even a little bit,we might want to stay in the area for the after party and take out pizza
I will wring the car out this Friday, and see if it is worthy of a trip down the 1/4, engine is on it, gotta test the trans under power. The other day with the Camaro did not get into the 3rd gear, my main goal but did not present itself

I will check in tomorrow after I get all of my responsibilities done and over with.

Craig, I won't be spending the night. I'll be bringing my friend Marky along with me, and he needs to be back in Scruz before too late (he's a new father).

I'll also ask him to bring his fire jacket (for anyone that runs 11.99 or faster). Don't forget your SFI-approved helmet guys, and also depending on speed, you may need 3 inch harnesses with crotch strap (don't get any ideas, Ron) smile.gif

So, we'll probably leave around 6PM or so get back at a decent hour, my guess is that the keg will be drained by then anyhow graemlins/beers.gif

Oh, and Ron, where are you going to need a ride to/from? Likely we can help...we'll be going 152 over to 5 and up 5 most likely...

Now, we only have 8 pages of posts on this topic, we're slacking, we should be at 10 or 12 pages by now, show some TC spirit ;)

Craig, I'll keg the beer tonight and get it carbonating graemlins/beers.gif

Jeff,

I sent off some directions...

Anybody else?

I am planning of printing directions to pass out at the track, just so no one gets lost...

52/40 degrees... Hmmm, I might not be driving my Chevelle, as the heater delete and non-sealed windows aren't really a good idea in the cold...

Maybe I'll catch a ride from my house with Jeff, if he has the room...

See you all around 10 AM at the track. Me and Shane are rolling up in the Yukon. I might run it, not sure yet.

I would like to see what the pig of an SUV will do but I fear it may pull the front tires and I might hit the wall coming off the line. :D Raw power, man....just raw power.

Anybody got a 200 wet shot kit I could bolt on for the day? See if'n we cant get the Yukon deep into the.......17's. smile.gif

No problem on the ride, I have lots of room. I'll plan on stopping by your pad on the way. Do you have a lot of ice nearby? Any liquor stores, etc.? I'll bring a garbage can to keep the keg in but we'll need a few bags of ice to keep it cool (or a refrigerator) smile.gif

Well, lets take a head count here and guess maybe a 1/2 to 3/4 pounds per person. So, we can add it up as soon as we get the counts in.

I need to do a couple of minor things to the car, and on the way in going to purchase about 3-4 gallons of 100 octane fuel, load it up in the plastic fuel container and fill it up a few miles from the track. I plan on leaving the house about 8AM, that puts me up there between 9:30-10:00AM. I will be driving solo, and the wife in the newer car following me up. Anybody want to hitch a ride up with me, speak up before we leave so I know who is up for the loud ride there. No sissy music and in depth convos in this cabin :D

And unless someone gives up their sticky tires for the day, my beast is going in on street tires (there goes my ET, but who cares) It's all about blinding speed and having fun. Hell, maybe there will be another Mustang club there? It's time to hunt some pony....

Extended cab or regular? Mine's extended, so that adds some weight... Got me one of them third-leg thingies that adds alot of weight... err, I mean third-door, yeah thats it, third-door... :D

I got me a rare console-shift automatic... Makes it easy to manually shift the thing... 700R4 with a lockup convertor, 1400 RPM stall speed...

K&N huh? I was going to do that, but debating selling it next year (maybe getting a Colorado)...

Mine's all stock, but 107K on the motor, so she pretty loose... I wish it had the tach option though...

Tony,

Extended cab 1997 model. Third-door delete option smile.gif . Got the tach on mine for keeping tabs on those high rpm shifts! Got 143k on mine, but had a three-angle valve job done on the heads at 90k due to a problem (you could search Bench Racing for my reply in some other S-10 topics). The bigger tires killed acceleration. Tows my '71 Sanger boat fairly well, but the clutch has problems pulling the boat out of the water.

David Hey David, the enterance fee for the car and driver is $45, not sure about a passenger. If my memory serves me right, it was $10 a head to watch so plan on at least that much for you. But you know what they say, beer kills brain cells so....

Unfortunately I hit a snag for right now. It's called the dang county hitting me with almost 3k in taxes. Sometimes being a homeowner just doesn't seem worth it. Really suck too cause I'm only missing a few things for my suspension rebuild going too. Plastic is tempting but I have to get the tax monkey off my back first.

Awesome.

I will bring my tools and timing light since I know that my tuning expertise will be greatly needed in the pits. :D

OH, that reminds me - Did I leave my Craftsman dial back (shiney chrome lookin) timing light with any of you's guys?

I can find the sucker anywhere.

I have a dial back timing light and tools if needed (and if Beaux doesn't find his)... Should I bring the light to the track?

I invited an old friend last night, but unfortunately he might have blown his tranny the other day (72 El Camino supposedly in the mid-9's and 11s off the bottle)... Another friend will probably bring his 66, but probably not race...

Looking forward to this...

If anyone wants to stop by my house on the way in, let me know... I think Jeff might be dropping off the keg and a few other guys might be meeting at my place...

I am going to print some directions to my place to give to everybody (just us TC guys) at the races... but I could sent directions to anyone that wants them ahead of that...

I will go to Costco on the way home tonight and get some tri-tip, salad (potatoe? green? both?), and maybe a pie... There is a Safeway near my house, so we can load up on other stuff later...

My wife was asking me if everyone was bringing a side-dish, but I told her how it usually goes, usually pick up supplies along the way...

I will probably be leaving the drags for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, but will return before we head to my place...

So, is anybody bringing their wives, kids, friends, girlfriends (not including sheep), etc...

I will check-in here about 2:30PM today to get a better count of who will be coming to the BBQ so I can figure out how much meat to buy...

kinzli
Dec 3rd, 04, 1:47 PM
Tony, does beer count as a side dish? smile.gif

I'll be there, and I'm bringing Marky and Erwin as far as I know. We probably won't be able to stay too long though, not sure if we'll be there for the Q or not.

Dirt, you're welcome to come over, I hope to have the car loaded by 6PM or so, but I promised Toni I'd take her out later so I don't have a lot of time for "testing" tonight, but between 6 and 7:30 or so is definately fair game graemlins/beers.gif

Erwin (Sobever66), let me know if you're in for tomorrow...

Tony, that's not a bad idea meeting at your place and go in from there. This way if anyone wants to eat or hang for a few we will have the opportunity to before going in. Either way you want to get the directions, mail or here, it's up to you. I will have the car, and the SSEi with the kids.

Jeff, if you are not making the Q, are you leaving the liquid gold? I imagine one of the guys (Al or Ron) could bring the equipment back for you? Must have homebrew.....

Still no Jay, don't know if he and his buds still plan on going or not. I will call him later I guess to ask if it is still the plan.

I picked up a few gallons of 100 octane fuel, and a couple of safety items missing from the car now. I was out this morning to try to locate some ET streets or drag radials with no luck. I will just have to burn my BFG's hot and hope the VHT is fresh for traction. I will be experimenting tomorrow with launching techniques, I DO want a 12 second timeslip dammit. Anyhoo, other than the helmet, I am for sure going to pass the most astringent tech person.

OMG, my bad luck continues.

Get this, the guy who has my rear end just called me... HIS HOUSE CAUGHT FIRE TODAY!

Consider this a warning. Everyone had best keep 20 feet away from me at all times tomorrow unless they want something to break/explode/catch fire/fall into a sinkhole/or any other type of calamity, because "the curse" is in full effect this week.

Lucky for me, my rear end was in his detached shop and is OK. However, the pinion gear is heavily scored. So there's no chance of having my Chevelle there tomorrow. And now I have to do an "easy 500 mile break in" on the new gears. ARGH!

I'll still be there tomorrow. With the 4-runner. I'm going to take on the role of "ricer of the day" bragging how my mighty overhead cam V6 "makes more hp/liter" than everyone else's old POS lowtech American V8 pushrod motors. LOL.

Thanks everyone for showing up, I had a great time, and the food was great, Thanks Tony for hosting all of us and Thanks Shane for Q'ing the meat, it was excellent. Beaux, thanks for making the store run, too.

As for times, well, I hang my head in shame, I couldn't seem to keep the tires from roasting. The best I could do was 12.45 I think, spinning the tires hard out the whole, trying to grab traction through 2nd gear, and finally being able to get on it a little harder through 3rd gear. I think another run that was reasonable was 12.56 or something, that one I was able to hook a little bit in first and second, but lifted at about 1000 feet or so. Either way, it was a blast, and next time I'll try to have some traction, and less problems with excess crankcase pressure.

Toni had a great time, too. Thanks guys for showing her the friendliness of TC. Her best time in the Cobra was 13.45 I think with a .432 light! She smoked my butt in RT's, that's for sure graemlins/hurray.gif

slpin, your car ran great, congrats.

Craig, I'm really sorry bud about the problems. Next time will be better. The planets must have been lined up wrong yesterday or something, but I was pulling for ya each run. You were doing everything right, the car just wasn't cooperating.

Way cool guys to see all the posts this morning, great pics as well. Awesome to see all of you there yesterday, I did have a great time despite all of my problems I was having.

Nice to meet a few new faces as well, slpin, Jody, and a couple of Tony's freinds at the track and at the house afterwards. Jeff, the beer was as good as ever, Troy and I will make a trip out there next month with Troy's car to get a little road time in on it.

Chris and Anthony, you guys have a second on my car right now and 6MPH. My best time was 13.1 at 106. My best 60' was 2.1, and best 1/8 was 8.5 at 85. A few mistakes on my part (here comes the poor excuses :D ) was my inability to add more power and do nothing to the stock fuel system. And on top of that, Troy pointed out a pinched rubber line off of the fuel pump making the problem even worse. This would explain the only 21MPH increase the last 1/2 the track. I am ordering 1/2 inch line from Summit tommorow, and some a-n fittings to get this done with once and for all. Next was traction, hands down the most frustrating part of the runs. I could not even go over 3/4 throttle from the start and through low gear (even then is was right on the ragged edge), if I did the car would lose traction and go out from under me. The only strong part of my runs was second gear to the start of 3rd, pulled quite well but not good enough. Tires, period. Next was the need for some good lower bars. The car at times felt like jello and washed/shimmied the car from side to side under power/traction.

So there it is, I was dissapointed, plus the fact that the most bizzare breakdown in the history of this event: the water pump to block gasket failure graemlins/clonk.gif Tony, thanks so much for the help, made things lots easier for me to get the car back together and back on the track. Oh, and the belt problem, need to get that fixed before I go out again. Will I do this again, HELL YES, but I need to make progressive changes for improvement before that happens again.

Enough about my car, silpin's car was running great. I believe he was in the high 12 second range, not sure about MPH, but congrats man, nice running car and very quiet as well.

Cheers to a great day graemlins/beers.gif

Jeff stuck the high res versions of the pic's I took on the web if you want to see them...

EkS - the first pic is Craigs, the next one is Jeff going up against his wife, the third shot is slpin's with the vinyl top I believe. I included the VW shot because I saw someone set down their bong in it's engine compartment!! ;)

definately a great day
craig, thanks for the good words
hey, try a thinner belt, so it sits deeper into the groove, my alternator is not aligned with the waterpump at all, but it still doesnt throw... it sits really deep down in the groove though....

yup, that would be me in the orange car...

Hey Everyone, Toni wanted me to post for her and give her thanks to everyone for being so supportive of her at the track. She had a blast!

She said special thanks to Reta for capturing some of the vids smile.gif

I'll post some of the vids in the near future.

Well guys sorry I couldn't make it this time around to Sac's TNT tried to get the cage in on time but ran out of time  . Should be in and ready to go in a week or so. All the original seats went good bye and racing buckets and five points are now in place. Next plan is 4.11 gears, 260 dur. @ .050/ .629 lift cam ( a bit larger than now) and maybe a little more stall, and 28 x 11.5 slicks, hoping for 11.50's and better  .Sorry Craig I should have let you borrow my ET streets i wasn't using them. Wish i could have been there. Craig i have faith that your car is good for 12's, it felt bitch'n at Turlock, sorry to hear about fuel problems. Jeff i think it's time for some slicks and the use of a certain trans brake! Jeff what was you MPH, curious to see how the car went after (some) traction. Next time I'm there guys. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Hey Anthony, sorry you couldn't make it. Traction was my downfall, I couldn't get it to hook to save my life. The best run I made I was able to get into it once into third gear, and ended at about 118mph. I was slow out of the hole and the tires were out from under me through 1st and 2nd though :( So yes, slicks or ET Streets or something better is on the list.

Jay, you're more than welcome to come over too for a brewfest. I'm going to be brewing the Oktoberfest brew this week, but most weeks will have something in the plans, so whenever you wanna cruise over, it's all good. graemlins/beers.gif

Had a great time... Thanks to Shane for the grilling (and Ron for spilling beer in my garage a few times)... and a big thanks to everyone showing up for the BBQ...

If I ever change my cam, maybe I'll actually take my car back out, but the ride to the TNT and back to my place in Craig's car was pretty fun. From about 40-45mph, Craig's car just goes sideway when floored, even with both of us (well, that was on the street)... Pulls hard, but too much power for those tires...

Craig, no problem on the repair help... I actually enjoy being able to help buddies out (ironic, both TNTs its been your car that had the minor issues)...

Jeff, great beer... Even from a non-connisuer (sp?), I really liked that brew...

Filthy had me crying a few times (from laughing so hard, I still want to see the David Lee Roth pants), but I think I put him "on the trailer" when I whipped out my calves (hmm, maybe my clutch is too stiff)...

The rest, had a great time at the track and the BBQ... Hope to see you all again soon...

Ray, thanks for stopping by, sorry we missed you at the track (We were back in the pit area)

OMG, that was funny when the calf off went down in the garage. Tony, you are the king of calf! The look on Shanes face was priceless, he could not figure out why they were so uber large.

Tony, thanks again for the help. I think if there was an award for the weirdest problems at the track, I would win everytime. Just either bad luck, or my car is possessed? Either way, the car always had got me home without a hitch, very reliable beast I must say. And I beat that car up on a regular basis too.

Now, down for the upgrades and get this barge into the mid 12's. Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence it has the power that's a given but the rest of the package is not backing it up plain and simple. good lesson on how you can't just throw more power at it, and expect it to do what you think it should. Lesson learned.

Craig's problem... Personally, I have never seen a water pump gasket blow out... It looked all "eroded" too (what was left anyway). Easy and cheap fix, but still probably an hour of downtime (run to two different stores to get gaskets, etc)...

I had a great time at the track. Thanks for the lift to/from the track Dennis. It was good listening to your stories of the "old days" :D . It was a bit on the cold side, but there was a good turnout for TC. Nice to finally see Kinzli on the track and cool to see his wife Toni having a great time! Craig and Kinzli got some way cool wives. Sucked that Craig had bad luck again. Damn. At least the problem was fixed in short order. Slpin's car was tearin' up the track. Nice work!

A lot of fast cars there. Made my car look like a CRX. Oh wait, that CRX was haulin' aZZ. I thought the track workers were operating the starting line unsafely for quite some time. People walking in front of cars that were to stage, and bad communication from the staging crew. For awhile it looked like a street race gone wild  . Redding is a lot more professional than how Sac was being operated this past Saturday.

All in all, a great time. Sorry I had to miss the BBQ afterwards. I should have stayed as the function I had to leave early for wasn't nearly as fun.

Word for the race: TIRES

Oh wait, that CRX was haulin' aZZ. How about that Turbo'd Bug (in the picture back a few posts)... Sure its light, but I saw that thing run like 10.50's  And I think its a bug motor (modified, but still a 4 cylinder...)

Lots of fun everyone, good meeting the new people, and as said before:

Thanks to Tony for putting up with us.
Thanks to Jeff for the refreshments.
Thanks to Shane for the grillin'.
And thanks to Ron and Tony for the "calf-off." LOL! I think SOMEONE needs to be tested for steroid use. :D

Oh, and I hate to tell you Craig, but while you were out getting a new waterpump gasket I got within 20 feet of your car, and in fact actually touched it. I think that may be the reason you were tossing fan belts...

Craig, if you want to come up to my place (or me down to your place) we can play "fuel system swap" for a day and I can dig out my Vericom for before/after runs. I have a lot of good "test and tune" country road out by me, as do you.

Can't wait for the next one! I'll try to keep my car in once piece for it too. graemlins/clonk.gif

Troy Troy, I would love to have some help on the fuel line swap that's for sure. And with your attention to detail, I know it would be done right. I will mail you when I get the things I need together. Now, I will kind of need an idea on what I actually need, things like fittings and what I can do to fit the 1/2" line into the tank using the stock sender unit.

Anthony, I did not even think to ask you for the tires thanks so much for the offer. Maybe if we do this again and the situation is the same I will give you a rig. Thanks man.

Hmmmm...

My rear end is fixed (for the CAR, dummy!) but not re-installed yet, as I decided to upgrade to ARP 1/2" studs for future possible usage of slicks. Of course Summit is out of stock and I had to order from Jegs...

Craig, when were you thinking of cruising over to Santa Cruz to help Brewmeister Jeff?

Dec 14th, 04, 10:46 AM
Troy, I think after talking it over with Marky some that the problem is mostly excessive crankcase pressure, and we're thinking about getting rid of the exhuast evac setup in favor of normal breathers.

While watching the vids I also realized that I might have a rear diff problem. We're going to pull the pumpkin in the near future and see what's up with that as well. Lots of work to do but we haven't done anything yet smile.gif

You guys and your rear end problems :D

I have many of my own, I keeed I kiiid.

Maybe one of the best times for me might be having to wait until the 1st weekend after new years weekend. I plan on painting the SSEi next Sunday, so I am busy then.

I have out of state company in town for the
christmas week, so that for me is out of the question as well.

So, if I have to skip out so be it but if this could wait I would still love to hang out for the day...

hey guys guesse what i did today.. i blew my motor.. ouch huh.. i swear, its far better to just build a car yourself instead of buying from an unknown person.. were pretty sure it threw a rod, was runnin fine, i did a little tiny burnout in my famous area about 10 mins before and was just showing one of my friends how the car acted with the stall. a few blocks later ( fulkerth and golden state) leaving the light ( in drive granny style.. nice and easy) and it started sounding like marbles in the oil pan.. then just shut down, oil pressure was at 45 like normal. well it sucks but it will be just fine.. good time to build the motor i really want huh.. look out Fu@#ers here comes the 12's hehehe. whats the best machien shop in our area? in thinking valley balancing or tba in turlock.. maybe dizney and wise?

Now, one thing I would do is pull the intake off and check your lifters out first. You said you had hyd rollers, I wonder if this is a problem, better to check out and see what's up before making a decision to pull the engine. If they check out fine, it's probably the bottom end if the noise is coming from the engine, and not something else like the trans/converter.

IF you need to rebuild, I would go out of my way and take a trip up to Manteca and pay a visit to "performance machine" on Yosemite and 99. I had my heads done there, pretty good work, and the place has a decent rap around the area.

If you need help with anything, please don't hesitate to ask.
