Look for Tony Hoffer's '72 in your mailbox in the next few days
daveseitz May 12th, 04, 10:30 PM Alright, but I need a bigger mailbox, and the postal carrier might have a hard time getting it in her car.
4-door Chevelle May 14th, 04, 11:24 AM Got mine yesterday. Glad I did as I needed a reminder about the meeting Saturday.
Thank you!
pauls May 14th, 04, 3:30 PM Hey Dave,
Will you have some logo shirts with you at the meeting? If not can we order some? Thanks,
Paul
Enganeer May 14th, 04, 10:34 PM Does anyone going to meet tommorow have a in-lbs torque wrench I could borrow?
I could bring the trans in the truck to the meet and be done in less than 10 minutes to finish torquing the valve body on my transmission. I could not find one low enough for 75 in-lbs.
Thanks - John graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Derek69SS May 14th, 04, 10:48 PM See you guys tomorrow graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Paul, if you remember, could you bring those control arms??? Also want to talk with you before the meeting about using your house as a meeting point before entering at CAR CRAFT.
One more note: I had the dates wrong on CB04. Its the week before. (Jun. 3-5). I didn't have the info handy when I finished it up, and went by last year's dates. My apologies...
John D May 14th, 04, 11:18 PM Got mine in the mail yesterday, checked it today, and I'm on the way! "Ol' Yeller" hasn't been tucked away since the last meet, so he/she/it will be there too!
John, knowing your meticulous-ness I understand the need, but all's I've ever done on a valve body was find the shortest handled 1/4" drive ratchet in my box. Go snug, in a crisscross proper pattern until all the way around twice. Then go a tweak more on each. Done. It'll live.
See y'all tomorrow! graemlins/beers.gif

I have thought of doing that but was unsure about how sensitive the valve body would be to uneven torqueing. 75 in-lbs is really just 6.25 ft -lbs. Not much.
I had the idea of attaching a bar on a wrench, measuring out 12 inches from where a bolt would be centered, drilling a hole, and then using fish scale to pull to 6 lbs. May not be pretty but would at least allow even torquing. I may just do that. I need a fish scale anyways.
See you guys tommorrow.

John D May 15th, 04, 12:55 AM I'm glad to know there's another perfectionist out there to aswage my psychosis! Really, if you think about it, how many "hammer-heads" out there actually torque anything to inch/lbs.??????, and their stuff runs all day long every day forever?
Think about it, you had a puddytat stomping all over your main & rod bearings at the buildup, and the dyno ##'s still prove the obvious.
I know it hurts, but you've gotta draw the line somewhere tongue.gif
Chris R May 15th, 04, 2:54 AM Are any of us planning on driving down as a group? Cause I just realized, I cant remember how to get there.
Chris R.

I have one you can use John.
Enganeer May 15th, 04, 11:38 AM john,
Your right, you have to draw the line somewhere. This is one of my problems and strengths. Too picky to slap something together and go. My dad was an avaition mechaninc when he was younger and we flew alot together in small planes. I think I got it from him. Since you screw something and it goes bad while in the air, you luckly if you live. Now I realize in a car, you can pull over but the teaching still remains.
I think if it was something like just bolting two parts just to hold together, I won't have a problem.
The automatic is a compact mess of hydrualic circuits and flow in and out of the valve body. I just did not want any leaks to allow loss of pressure or bleeding of pressure into the wrong lines. But your right, how many 'hammer heads' did this in there drive and just tightened it to whatever and went.
Keith, if you bring the wrench, that would be great. I won't bring the tranny but can return it to you Monday. I work in New Hope, so close to you. If not, that's okay. I got my ruler and fish scale to go on.
See you guys in about 4 hours. graemlins/beers.gif
I say do whatever it takes to give you piece of mind. If that means using a torque wrench instead of "best guessing" it, so be it. At least you won't be wondering if you have a couple bolts unscrewing themselves.
