I want to build either a 383 or 355. Looking for about 400-415HP and 415-425ft. lbs. I am looking to spend no more than $2500. I want to mate it to a Tremec 3550. What do you suggest for parts? I am going to run ceramic headers with 2.5 stainless exhaust. Is $2500 not enough? Where might I purchase a good Short block to start, or whole engine?

i have a fella that i met and im buying the heads from that has a 355/383 block that has been decked, aligned, ringed?? little circles around the cylinders, just a ton of stuff done to it, he also has a new stroker crank, rods(shorter than stock for pistons that have more top-to-pin distance for more durability and a few other parts that he is selling pretty cheap, it was for a stroker blower motor he was going to build when he decided to go big block, im buying the heads from it cheap too, let me know if you are interested i think the short block he wanted $1400 for everything but not sure, i just remember it was a deal (wish i could afford it) oh he was a GM tec for 10 years (computer specialist)

I noted this in a previous post. Chech out the lastest issues of Chevy High Performance. Built up a 350 crate engine. The base targetmaster deal. With Vortec heads, cam, Holley, etc. it put out slightly over 400 HP with no actual base engine changes. Pretty darn impressive considering this is actual dyno rated horsepower. Find the issues starting in Nov thru Jan. Total cost should be well under 3000 even with a new crate engine. Heck of a combo with the Tremec 5 speed.

I heard that Target motors were unreliable and would break easily. Is this true?
