Have a 70 Chevelle with a 350 and a four speed. There is a speedometer cable that is dissconnected and hanging inside the engine compartment. It has a small square end on the cable. Where should I connect the cable to? Can't see any place where this thing connects.
Thanks

Look on the floorboard, near where your foot is when the clutch is fully depressed. Near there you should find a round hole (approx 1.5-2" in diameter) with a rubber grommet. The grommet may be gone, but either way this is the spot where the speedo cable enters low on your firewall. The end of the cable will not have a threaded collar like the tranny end, but rather a bare metal sleeve. This sleeve slides onto the back of your speedometer gauge, which is sometimes a bear to locate by feel. If there is a way to lay on your back, with flashlite in hand, you should be able to look up and see the back of your speedometer. A small metal clip will need to be pryed upwards for the cable end to slip on the gauge. That's all there is to it! Consult your trusty GM assembly manual for drawings of the back of the gauge & clip arrangement.

Thanks but it is actually already connected to the speedometer, It's the other end that needs to be connected somewhere.

Then it runs down the side of your tranny and screws in near the back of the tranny.

Does speedo work? Didn't have cruise control at one time by chance? Usually, cable went from speedo to cruise and another from cruise to trans. If the cruise was removed, a single cable from speedo to trans would leave one (or two) dangling somewhere.
A thought...
