: Just a quick question about slicks

I know this isn't the right forum but I didn't get any replies in the wheels and tires forum.

I just need to know if 27.5X12-15 slicks will fit on a 15x7 wheel, or if I need to go wider.

Thanks

I would definitely say ..no way... Manufacturers do not measure there tires the same way but that 12 in there indicates the approximate width. You would probably need at least a 10" rim.

69bb is right.
Rule of thumb is 1 to 2 inches narrower or wider that total tread width. So for 12 " wide you would need a 10" wide wheel.

I have 28 x 11.50 ET Streets on 7 inch wheels and they work just fine.

You cannot compare ET Streets & ET drag tires by their sidewall designation. The slicks are measured and designated by their tread width and ET Streets are designated by their sidewall (budge or section) width...this is due to DOT regulations for street tires.

A 28 x 11.5 ET street will measure 10.9" section, with 8.6" tread on a 8" rim. a 28 x 9 slick will measure 10.8" section, with a 8.6" tread on the same 8" rim.

This can cause some confusion if you were not aware of how they were measured & designated.

BTW, the above posts are dead right about needing a 10" to 12" rim for that tires you stated.
