okay, I was replacing the bushings on my rear differential and I noticed a little plastic tube like piece on the passenger side of the differential on the housing under the bushing. it looks like it is a vent, its about 1" long and about 1/4" in dia. can anyone tell me what this is. I accidently hit it with the hammer and it broke off. its a 10 bolt from my 65.

You answered your own question... It the Diff Housing vent...

That is indeed the vent for the rear end. The part is still available from GM and restoration suppliers but comes with a dark green cap instead of white.
