With the timing gear, lifters, distributor & oil pump shaft removed, I'm having problems getting the cam out. What would cause the cam to hang up on the first bearing seat?

This may sound silly, but do you still have any bolts attached to grab the cam?

If not, put two of the timing gear bolts in, and slowly pull it out....it shouldnt give you too much resistance, but be careful to pull it straight and even so as not to damage the cam bearings in the block

If you run a mechanical fuel pump its hanging up on the pin that drives it if you didn't remove it.

Put the top timing gear back on the camshaft with two bolts. That will give you some leverage to pull the cam out, but be sure to check on that fuel pump pushrod being removed as mentioned by sschevyfan. Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I intended to say the fuel pump shaft & not the oil pump shaft. I had tried what riskyvt said. The cam will come out a little bit, then will stop against something. Could it be the bearings (spun) that are stopping the cam?

Are you turning the cam as your pulling it out?Maybe a lobe is catching on the edge of a bearing.

Are you pistons htting the cam. When I put in My stroker I had to rotate the crank as I put it in so that the lobes would not it the pistons.
