Nick, Sounds to me like your striker has moved on the jamb. It has happened to me and it takes some fooling around to get the door open, but once you tighten up the striker post you will be good to go. Good Luck.

Try lifting up hard on the door as you pull - could be sagged - like maybe a hinge bushing shattered or is just worn out ???

Make it the way you like it, forget what the other guys say!

THE STRIKER COULD BE MESSED UP, BECAUSE I JUST REPLACED ALL THE HINDGES SIX MONTHS AGO. THATS A TORX ISNT IT? I HAVE THE INTERIOR DOOR PANELS TAKEN OFF THIS SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT.
THANKS

the push rod may not be fully opening the mechanism, it's a straight rod with a 45* bend that pushes against the opening mechanism, if it's bent down too much it will only partialy open the door, or not at all, sometimes you can push down on the handle and push the button and it will open, but since you have the door panel off, check that for full travel.

I have had that problem on late 70's Novas and Cutlasses but never on an early A Body. I ended up taking them to a body shop to get the problem fixed. It was the rod not the striker plate.
