Quick lil spin down this old highway against a buddy in his race stang. He gave me 8 feet out of the hole because I didn't have slicks and he does. Ran a bought even all through 1st and 2nd, then he pulled away in 3rd. His car runs 8.10's all day long. It was a blast.
Didn't feel bad though because i was running a stock convertor, street tires smoking all the way to 3rd, and I think it's time to get rid of the vac sec 750. I don't think it's opening soon enough, even with the lightest spring. Definately the stock HEI aint helpin none either.
All in all it gave me some input as to what I still need to do to the combo.

H#$%^& shorty headers (JUNK) for racing
750 holley vac sec
roller rockers
forged crank and pistons
stock HEI

I think I'm choking this combo with some stock parts and cheap headers.

I'm convensed I can beat your buddies mustang if he decided to go with some radial tires. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The lack of a higher stall converter is really hurting your combo! Make it a priority over your ignition and asperation issues and you'll have a much better running car.

Invest in a better street tire if you spinning through second. What good is power that you can't use?!?!? I can use the middle and top end of first with minimal wheel spin. I just barely chirp 2nd @ about 60mph. How do you know the vac 2nd carb isn't opening quick enough if you can roast the tires? What would a "snappier" DP do for you?

I switched from a Q-Jet to a 4150HP vac sec., and it took some getting used to not having the huge surge of the secondaries opening like when the Q-Jet did. Mine is hard to tell that it is opening cause it is smooth.

The lack of a stall is definately killing me, and the tires don't help much either.
I had some 29.5x10.5x15's, but they were way to tall. Couldn't get it in the wheel well by a 1/4 inch with the weld 10inch wheels.
I was just fixing this thing up for primarily a show car, but I/ve been bit by the good ole fun of hookin up in a race. Too damn bad the car wouldn't hook.
I'm almost ready to install my 4spd so the stall is out of the question. I'll just have to figure the best launch approach. Some stickys are in the near future. I'm pretty sure I can run quicker, it's just getting the rest of the combo lined out. Funds are a little tapped right now.
