Guys, pls help with a couple of basic things. I went to look at a 67 got sale today ( 138 Car ... I check under hood and driver door tag ) ... Overall, the car was pretty nice ... it was a 396 325 HP edition ... bucket seats, automatic, PS PB ... Problems: (1) Horn didn't blow ... I went to check if it was actually connected ... Where is the horn ? ... On other cars, it is usually up front around radiator support ... (2) The driver side tail light went out when the brake pedal was pushed ... DOes anyone have a thought why ? ... (3) Was 3.31 rear ends offered in Chevelles ? (4) Would the car have a clock on the console ( round clock ) and also have a rectangle clock on the dash ? This seems odd to me ... like maybe not the original console ... Overall, I like the car ... I usually hang out on the Camaro site, but I am trying to add to the family... Any help or suggestions that you guys can provide would be appreciated ... Thanks in advance ... sdtsdt ...
PLs respond promptly ... I want to make a decision on car this weekend

Well, I am no expert but....
1)Horn is usually bolted to the radiator support/hood latch area
2)Wrong type bulb installed
3)Yes, 3.31 rears were offered in 1967 Velles
4)?? Not sure, but I would not think that Chevy would put 2 clocks in one car.

As far as your VIN goes, in 1967, 13817 - 13867 indicates "Chevelle SS 8 cyl."

1. Horn(s) are bolted up under the drivers-side fender. Could just be wires not connected, not grounded, bad relay, etc. Not uncommon to have rust or paint on contacts and not make good ground.

2. Burned out or just didn't come on if other lights were on? Tail lights are dual filament, one for running lights and one for stop lights. Could just be a bad bulb.

3. 3.31 was offered on 67 SS, both posi and non-posi. Standard on 396/325 with 3-speed and 4-speed, with and without air, optional on TH400.

4. Don't think it would have both. If the console was ordered with bucket seats (RPO D55) the clock area on the dash would be blank (unless gauge package was ordered then it would include gauges [RPO U14]). I think the bucket seats could be ordered without the console, but not the other way around...console required the buckets.

Is/was the shifter column mounted? That would indicate no console and hence no console clock. You can also check the TR (trim) code on the cowl tag. It will indicate bucket or bench seat. Buckets were only offered in six colors and trim numbers...
731 - Medium Bright Blue
738 - Medium Blue
750 - Medium Red
763 - Black
778 - Medium Turquoise
784 - Medium Gold
...anything else would indicate a bench seat and hence no console.

My 67 SS has a trim code of 763-B indicating black buckets; it did not have a dash clock and did have a console. My 67 Elky has a trim code of 729 indicating medium blue bench seat and it does have a dash clock.

If the clocks are like most 67 models I've seen, you've just got two that don't work http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif Looks like someone either replaced the speedo housing or added bucket seats and console. Either way, if you like the car and the price is right...go for it!
